Texas Longhorns Need a New OC: An Open Letter To Gus Malzahn

Matt MillerDec 2, 2010

Dear Gus,

Congratulations on another wonderful season at Auburn. As a Texas fan, we have been watching you from the bleachers for months now—hoping and praying that one day we could have an offensive coordinator like you.

Today Mack Brown announced the firing of Greg Davis, our inept offensive coordinator. This means we have a nice, big office waiting for you in Austin. When can you start?

Leaving Auburn will be tough. We know this.

But let's consider the facts: Cam Newton, your Heisman Trophy contending quarterback, is leaving for the NFL after the season. You know this; we know this. Replacing Newton will be impossible for you next year, and trying to duplicate this stunning 2010 season will leave you with nothing but expectations that are impossible to live up to.

With Newton gone you will have an empty stable. At Texas you have a blank canvas to work with, and we are even throwing in some of the most athletic players in the country for you to work with.

Your no-huddle spread offense will be a perfect fit for the talents of Garrett Gilbert and Mike Davis. If you don't like Gilbert, don't fret—Texas is loaded with high school quarterbacks who will be dying to play for THE Gus Malzahn.

Yes, we have a terrible offensive line that needs reloading—and we are searching high and low for a new offensive line coach (feel free to bring your own). In Austin you will have your pick every year of the best prep players in the country. At Auburn you will fight with LSU, Alabama, Florida and Miami for the best players the Southeast can offer. Recruiting at Texas is unparalleled.

Please take a few weeks to consider what we are offering, and talk to your head coach Gene Chizik. Chizik left Auburn after an undefeated season at defensive coordinator to work in Austin. Now he's the head coach for your undefeated Tigers. Come to Texas for three seasons and you will leave the most sought-after coordinator in the game.

The opportunities are unlimited. Come to Texas.

Sincerely,

The Concerned Fans of the University of Texas

Update: Despite numerous reports on line this morning, Greg Davis has yet to be fired. We do expect his firing to happen at any time today or tomorrow. At least we're hoping so.
