NFL Power Rankings Week 13: Dwayne Bowe Jumps Up WR Rankings, but How Far?
The long NFL weekend was certainly interesting for every NFL team and is usually the case, there were a lot of interesting things happening to NFL wide receivers. We saw one of the most interesting newcomers this season, Buffalo’s Steve Johnson dropped a sure touchdown pass in the end zone that cost his team the game while Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson was ejected for fighting.
What a weekend it was.
So which players moved up the rankings this week? Which players fell down or completely fell off our list? Let’s find out as we look at our rankings for the 13th week in the NFL.
32. Lance Moore-New Orleans Saints
1 of 33
Last Week: Unranked-The Saints passing game is starting to get better and Moore is one of several players that will benefit from this. Look for his numbers to increase as the season draws to a close and watch as he should easily climb up the rankings from here on out.
31. Brian Hartline-Miami Dolphins
2 of 33
Last Week: Unranked-The Dolphins actually have a pretty decent passing offense when Henne is in the lineup and Hartline, along with Marshall, are big beneficiaries of that.
30. Malcolm Floyd-San Diego Chargers
3 of 33
Last Week: 29th-Floyd may be seeing some of his catches increase again now that Vincent Jackson is inured. He remains a viable option in one of the NFL’s better offenses.
29. Mike Thomas-Jacksonville Jaguars
4 of 33
Last Week: 27th-Thomas manages to stay on the list this week and has been the most consistent wide receiver for the Jaguars this season. Can he improve his positioning next week? It will depend on what happens with quarterback David Garrard’s wrist (and all indications are that he will be ready to play this coming weekend) as to how well he does in the coming weeks.
28. Mario Manningham-New York Giants
5 of 33
Last Week: 31st-The absence of Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks has helped keep Manningham in this week’s rankings and has helped him improve his pass catching totals. Look for him to be the Giant’s primary receiver until Smith and Nicks have returned to the lineup.
27. Chad Ochocinco-Cincinnati Bengal
6 of 33
Last Week: 25th-Ochocinco and Owens could be considered one of the better receiving duos in the NFL but they have problems getting passes from the quarterback. Still, the T.O. Ochocinco experiment has paid dividends and like the famous saying goes “you can’t have one without the other” (in this poll).
26. Mike Williams-Seattle Seahawks
7 of 33
Last Week: 23rd-Williams isn’t getting the touchdowns that some of these other guys are getting but he’s helping Pete Carroll’s offense move the ball through the air and has reclaimed what was once a disastrous career.
25. Percy Harvin-Minnesota Vikings
8 of 33
Last Week: 22nd-In a league full of big play wide receivers, Harvin is easily one of the top guys and hopefully he will get more chances to make a bigger impact with the Vikings before the season is over.
24. Dez Bryant-Dallas Cowboys
9 of 33
Last Week: 26th-After Roy Williams fiasco on Thanksgiving, we may see even more of Bryant as the featured wide receiver (behind Austin) on offense. That means he should be a mainstay in the rankings and should continue to keep moving up as the season goes on.
23. Wes Welker-New England Patriots
10 of 33
Last Week: 28th-The Patriots continue their march towards the playoffs and Welker is right there helping them out in the passing game. He’s an underrated player at a position that is full of them.
22. Jabar Gaffney-Denver Broncos
11 of 33
Last Week: 24th-The Broncos keep on putting up some big numbers though the air and they wouldn’t be able to do it without guys like Lloyd and Gaffney.
21. Brandon Marshall-Miami Dolphins
12 of 33
Last Week: 20th-Marshall benefited from having quarterback Chad Henne back and will benefit as the season goes on. While he may not have had as big of a season as everyone thought that he would this year, he is poised to have a breakout season with the Dolphins in 2011.
20. Braylon Edwards-New York Jets
13 of 33
Last Week: 21st-Edwards may have been a bit quiet on Thanksgiving night but that doesn’t diminish what he does for the Jets. He’s having a good season in New York and may finally have found his place in the NFL.
19. Santana Moss-Washington Redskins
14 of 33
Last Week: 15th-Moss may not be putting the kind of touchdown numbers that some of the other players on this list are but he’s productive and reliable and that earns him a spot in the rankings.
18. DeSean Jackson-Philadelphia Eagles
15 of 33
Last Week: 14th-Jackson, like Maclin, didn’t have the best game but remains one of the most explosive threats at the wide receiver position. When he gets the ball in his hands, watch out because he is a threat to take it all the way all the time.
17. Larry Fitzgerald-Arizona Cardinals
16 of 33
Last Week: 17th-Like Calvin Johnson, Fitzgerald is a bright spot on an otherwise dismal team. Hopefully he, and the Cardinals, will have a much better go of it next season.
16. Anquan Boldin-Baltimore Ravens
17 of 33
Last Week: 13th-Boldin didn’t have his best game this Sunday but he continues to be one of the most reliable wide receivers in the NFL. He’s also the most important of the receivers on the Ravens and a big part of their success through the air.
15. Mike Williams-Tampa Bay Buccaneers
18 of 33
Last Week: 18th-There may not be another rookie wide receiver this season that has the kind of year that Williams is having. He’s productive and reliable and could be the guy that leads the Bucs in catches for years to come.
14. Johnny Knox-Chicago Bears
19 of 33
Last Week: 16th-You can be rest assured that this choice will bring some discussion. Knox continues to be the go to guy for the Bears and even scored a valuable touchdown this Sunday. All he does is catch passes and move the chains which makes for a great wide receiver.
13. Miles Austin-Dallas Cowboys
20 of 33
Last Week: 12th-Austin had a pretty nice game against the Saints on Thanksgiving and is poised to continue to play well for the remainder of the season despite the fact his team really isn’t going anywhere.
12. Jeremy Maclin-Philadelphia Eagles
21 of 33
Last Week: 11th-Maclin, along with the rest of the Eagles offense, was handcuffed a little bit by the Bears defense this weekend. He’s still a great target and a threat to do the distance every time he touches the ball.
11. Andre Johnson-Houston Texans
22 of 33
Last Week: 8th-It must be a bad week for Johnsons. This Johnson was ejected from the Texans game against the Titans for fighting. He will be able to play this Thursday night so at least the Texans will have their top receiver there to help.
10. Steve Johnson-Buffalo Bills
23 of 33
Last Week: 7th-The unfortunate thing for Johnson is that he dropped that game winning touchdown pass in the end zone for the Bills (and he’s not blaming himself for it). Had he not dropped that, he could be much farther up the rankings this week.
9. Mike Wallace-Pittsburgh Steelers
24 of 33
Last Week: 4th-Wallace slips a little in the rankings but remains one of the best wide receivers in the AFC this week.
8. Marques Colston-New Orleans Saints
25 of 33
Last Week: 19th-Colston makes a pretty big jump this week thanks to his stellar play with the Saints and is getting to be where many people thought that he would be this season. He should continue to improve his position in this poll and could be in the top five before the end of the season.
7. Terrell Owens-Cincinnati Bengals
26 of 33
Last Week: 2nd-Owens was another receiver that had a difficult week this week but he was shut down by Jet’s cornerback Derelle Revis so he might deserve a pass there. Look for him to rebound against the Saints this coming Sunday.
6. Reggie Wayne-Indianapolis Colts
27 of 33
Last Week: 6th-Wayne and the Colts may not be playing the usual way that they have in the past but Wayne is still a valuable asset to the team and one of the best receivers in the NFL. Still, if his quarterback continues to struggle, will he take Wayne down (this poll) with him?
5. Greg Jennings-Green Bay Packers
28 of 33
Last Week: 10th-With no running game to speak of, the Packers have had to rely a lot on their passing game and Jennings has been a big beneficiary of that. Look for him to continue his strong and solid play in an effort to help the Packers earn a shot at the playoffs this season.
4. Calvin Johnson-Detroit Lions
29 of 33
Last Week: 3rd-Johnson is a bright spot in an otherwise dismal season for the Lions. He does still keep producing despite the fact Matthew Stafford is out for the season and he could actually end up being the lone Pro Bowl player on the Lions before it’s all said and done.
3. DeWayne Bowe-Kansas City Chiefs
30 of 33
Last Week: 9th-This guy is highly productive and it shows. With 14 touchdown passes and the Chiefs winning a lot of games this season, Bowe is clearly one of the most valuable players at the position in 2010.
2. Roddy White-Atlanta Falcons
31 of 33
Last Week: 1st-White didn’t have that great week this week but he’s still one of the top dogs at the position. Look for him to bounce back and have a better game coming up.
1. Brandon Lloyd-Denver Broncos
32 of 33
Last Week: 5th-Lloyd slips into the top spot this week after having a nice game against the Rams this Sunday. The Broncos may not be winning a lot of games but their passing offense is looking good and Lloyd is a big reason why.
Who Dropped Off?
