Oklahoma Sooners Leave Oklahoma State Crying on Way To Big 12 Title Game

Billy RayNov 28, 2010

Just as it has happened so often to the Cowboys of Oklahoma State, big brother came into town and crushed little brothers dreams once again. For the second consecutive season, Oklahoma State came into Bedlam thinking BCS and left crying about the same old B.S.

In what was one of the most entertaining games of the year, the Sooners and Cowboys went toe-to-toe for 60 minutes and the outcome was not decided until Ryan Broyles recovered the OSU on-side kick with less than 40 seconds left.

This was a heavyweight matchup that could have gone either way, especially with OU playing road Santa again and giving up two non-offensive scores.

The game featured numerous high-light reel plays ranging from a spectacular leaping deflected interception reminiscent of the NBA, to yet another road game kick-off return for a touchdown for an Oklahoma opponent that spun the momentum back to the Cowboys like a barn dance do-se-do. This return came right after a long Cameron Kenney catch and run gave OU a seemingly safe lead with only minutes to go.

Even with two perfectly thrown TD bombs by Jones late in the fourth quarter, Sooner fans were left to sweat it out like a turkey the day before Thanksgiving. Despite taking three separate nine point leads in the fourth quarter, OU was in danger of letting yet another road game victory slip away.

OSU battled back each time to put the pressure squarely back on the shoulders of the visiting Sooners, a spot the Sooners have folded under twice this year on the road.

While Landry Jones may have come through at the end when it mattered, his miscues in the first half were a major reason the Cowboys were able to hang in there and have the opportunity to win the game.

On two separate occasions, he tried to throw the ball away under pressure and left it in position for the Cowboy defenders to make the play for an interception. Another play, he stared at Ryan Broyles like Elton John watching a Boy Scout troop and had his pass snatched for a pick-six.

Give credit to both of these teams, they battled hard till the end. With the South division's Big 12 title game berth on the line, these two young squads went after it with all they had.

With the Sooners victory on the road, they have set up a matchup with lame-duck Nebraska in the final Big 12 Championship scheduled. This will be OU's eighth appearance in the title contest and maybe the last Big Red Rivalry game ever played.
