Letter to Ohio State Prez: 1990 Called, They Want Your Opinion Back

Scott R. HansenNov 24, 2010

Dear Ohio State Prez,

We regret to inform you that your comment on TCU and Boise State not being worthy of BCS National Championship Game consideration is so old.

Like 1990 old. Like wishbone formation old.

We apologize for your quarterback being too “me, me, me.” Show of hands: Who saw Terrelle Pryor utter “he ran the wrong route, it’s not my fault” to coach Jim Tressel after throwing a pick in the end zone in a tight game at Iowa?

Ohio State has won ONE national championship in the modern era. Even that was a questionable gift from the football gods with that pass interference penalty in the end zone.

Ohio State beats up on paper-tiger Big Ten opponents all autumn long like Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Purdue. But then they'll slip up out of nowhere against an Illinois, Northwestern or somebody else like that along the way.

The Big Ten is the paper-tiger elite in this whole college football debacle.

Not even the addition of Nebraska will bring the Big Ten anywhere close to the Southeastern Conference.

Players are bought and paid for in that neck of the woods. Though, some would argue that Big Ten football is also crooked in a lot of ways.

And for some reasonplease tell me why, Mr. Prezthe Big East still has an automatic entry to the BCS when the Mountain West does not.

How is that allowed to happen?

Do you want to compare the records of TCU and Boise State against automatic qualifier opponents?

Why is it such a big deal that Boise State is forced to play on Tuesday night by the nation’s capitol of college football in Bristol, Conn., against a Louisiana Tech team?

I’m still not sure why that makes geographical sense. Shreveport and Boise are quite a long ways from the other.

The mothership. The sports-programming pirates.

They caused this mess with your conference, and your Big Ten Network and non-conference championship game.

Did you notice Texas and ESPN just struck a huge deal?

So, tell me, why does the Buckeye on your helmet that was relevant 40 years ago apply to modern-day college football?

It’s a different game, different rules and different mindset.

We should pray to the college football gods in Bristol that your institutionand the condescending way you say THE Ohio State University and how stupid the dude looks when he is going to dot the Ithat you play TCU or Boise State in a BCS game of your choosing this January.

Dare it. Wish it. Do it.

Let Ohio State fans complain after another BCS loss to a team from the unknown and ask for Tressel’s head.

How horrible are Ohio State fans? They want to run their coach after losing in the BCS, yet they have short memories and don’t remember how bad it was with other coaches.

Not sure which fans are worse: Ohio State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC, Texas, Michigan, Penn State or Alabama? Little help there would be nice.

I’m thinking Ohio State. Willing to listen to arguments.

Boise State and/or TCU would beat Oregon, Auburn, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State for sure (worst team in BCS contention from the Big 12 this late in its history) or Iowa.

Line any of them up.

Boise State and/or TCU would meet in the finals on a four-team playoff against Oregon and Auburn.

How many more times does Boise State have to beat Oregon to prove its point? You think Cam Newton would seriously fare well against the best defense in the country?

Say what you want about Newton, but defenses in the SEC have not necessarily been synonymous from top to bottom.

In fact, SEC defenses are statistically some of the worst in college football. Of course, LSU and Alabama have some of the best in some weeks and it balances out.

OK, LSU is a bad example.

Good luck against Michigan in another meaningless rivalry showdown.

Concerned Fan and Dear Friend,

Scott R. Hansen

P.S.: Tell Kirk Herbstreit I said hello.

I know he tried with all his might to get Pryor the Heisman for you, but it just didn’t work out this season. For sure, next season, Herbie will get Pryor the Heisman.
