SEC Final Week Predictions: Larry's Losers in the SEC

Larry BurtonNov 22, 2010

Well folks, the pooch and I are proud of picking perfection last week and we aim to go out with a bang on this final week of the SEC regular season. Last week's perfection brought us up to 78-12 or a solid B on anyone's report card with an 85 percent accuracy rate.

This week Bacardi and I are flustered with the picks before us. There's lots of disagreements and even the smart cookies can't help settle it, so on some, we broke out the lucky silver dollar and we'll just flip it and go from there.

This has been a great season with lots of shocking surprises. If you had told me and Bacardi that Alabama and Florida would have been locked out of the SEC Championship by now back at the first of the season, you could have cleaned up on all we would have bet on it.

This has been the year of the upstarts and in the spirit of sportsmanship, I tip my hat and Bacardi gives the obligatory wag of the tail to Auburn and South Carolina for pulling off good seasons.

Now with all that said, let's get going on the final regular season picks.

Auburn at Alabama - Gene Chizik brings his blue ribbon winning cat show contestants to Tuscaloosa for a nationally televised game to show the world that Auburn is for real and deserves a shot at the big glass ball this year.

With nothing left to play for but a top ten finish and state bragging rights, the Tuscaloosa Tuskers are layin' an ambush that'll catch that Tiger by his tail and spoil the War Cam Eagle's dreams of BCS glory.

Though the Vegas boys have more faith than most Alabama fans I've talked to, Bacardi sees this as a coin flipper, but my instincts tell me that a wet field and a home crowd could be the deciding factor in this monumental game.

In the end the Tide rises and washes away the Tigers sand crystal ball.

Larry's Loser - Auburn

LSU at Arkansas - Les Miles escaped a close one last week against a pitiful Ole Miss team and this week the hogs present a tougher challenge as they invite the Tigers to the Pig Pen this weekend.

Can LSU's luck continue to hold up? That is the question we just can't decide on.

This is one of those games that could be decided by a single big play or mistake and the old flea bag and I have been arguing this game for a week. He thinks the LSU defense will be the difference, but I see the Big Pig gunslinger making an NFL statement with this game.

We just flipped the coin and the loser's fate has been decided and they continue their streak of late season flops.

Larry's Loser - LSU

Mississippi State at Ole Miss

Dan's doggies have shown that they are a dog with bite this year and their season won't end after this game as they've earned a bowl nod for their fine work this season. This week they travel to Ole Miss, who is on the bottom looking up and hoping for something good to build on for next season.

Houston Nutt is most dangerous when he's cornered and given little chance, and that's just where he is this week. He is forced to admit that the Jeremiah Missoli experiment didn't help them very much and now they're high and dry without any experience for next year.

But Mullen's mutts have to prove that they belong in the bowl season and they will dispatch the Rebels and go on to the post season.

Larry's Loser - Ole Miss

Florida at FSU - Urban's little green lizards head North for some redemption and a little state braggin' rights over Jimbo Fisher and his Tallahassee Tribe.

The trouble in Florida's T-Town though is that these Noles know how to scalp and the good news is the Gators have no hair.

I'm guessing the over/under is three for this contest. That is, three coaches' headsets will hit the grass.

But when this game is over, you'll be seeing a lot of Seminoles sporting a lot of alligator hide belts and shoes.

Larry's Loser - Florida

Georgia Tech at Georgia - In yet another of the in-state braggin' right brewhas going on this weekend, the Peach State championship will be decided and we'll all see who gets cobbler and who gets the pits.

Georgia started this season about as slow as a snail and Tech hasn't had the kind of season many thought they would have. This is clearly the underachiever's game.

Of course Bacardi is pulling for the pooches, but I see the Ramblin' Wreck making road kill out of this car chasin' dog.

Larry's Loser - Georgia

Kentucky at Tennessee - Joker Phillips has guided the Wildcats back to a shot at a bowl with six wins. A seventh would all but ensure it and he plans on using the Volunteers like a scratching post as his Kentucky Kitties pursue another SEC win.

But Tennessee has shown that they have a few sharpshooters in the ranks and they may get lucky and send a Wildcat to the taxidermy shop and get a sixth win of its own.

This could be another coin flipper, but the home field and the shot at getting to a bowl game might just be too much for the Vols to lose this one.

Larry's Loser - Kentucky

South Carolina at Clemson - The last of the state braggin' right fights, The Old Ball Coach brings the Carolina Cluckers to the home of the Carolina Kitties and the feathers and fur will fly as each team not only wants braggin' rights, but a good start to the post season play that each will see.

Dabo sure would love to get that seventh win and assure a bowl game for the orange clad kitties, but the Carolina Cocks will rise to the challenge to see that won't happen.

This could be a trap game for South Carolina, but Bacardi and I both feel that won't happen this week.

Larry's Loser - Clemson

Wake Forest at Vanderbilt - This year Vanderbilt is in a tight battle with Ole Miss for worst team in the SEC and with just one conference win for each team, they may just tie. But while Bacardi and I see Ole Miss ending the season with a loss, the Commodores may sail into the offseason with a win in this one.

Wake Forrest is just plain pitiful this year and that's just what Robbie Caldwell needs to end the Vandy season on a high note and Bacardi and I don't see how even Vanderbilt can blow this gimmie.

Larry's Loser - Wake Forest

Well that's it for the regular season, tune in next for Larry's Loser in the SEC Championship Game and then the final Larry's Losers in the SEC—Special Bowl Edition.

Till then enjoy your turkey and send your ham bones to Bacardi.
