Arkansas Vs. LSU: The Hogs and the Tigers Battle for a BCS Bowl Bid

James BrownNov 21, 2010

Next Saturday, the Arkansas Razorbacks will host Les Miles and the LSU Tigers in a monumental game. The winner could be rewarded with a BCS Bowl bid.

The latest college football odds posted by BetMania will have the line for this SEC showdown and my prediction is that it will be a small number.

Both teams emerged victorious on Saturday, but the performances were not impressive

No. 5 ranked LSU hosted Ole Miss at home and needed a fourth quarter comeback to seal the victory and remain the only one loss team in the SEC. Highly criticized quarterback Jordan Jefferson led the Tigers to the come from behind win.

Jefferson passed for a career high 254 yards, and scored two touchdowns. Up next for LSU is Arkansas, who needed extra time to win on Saturday.

No. 13 Arkansas needed double OT to take down the pesky No. 22 Mississippi St Bulldogs.  While a voiding a ferocious blitz Ryan Mallett connected with running back Knile Davis in the endzone to put the Hogs ahead in the second extra session.

The Hogs defense held off the last drive from the Bulldogs and now one game may be all that is separating Arkansas from a BCS bowl game.

The winner of this game is not guaranteed a BCS bowl bid with hard charging Wisconsin and Stanford blazing a path up the BCS rankings. This would also include Auburn making an appearance in the National Championship game, not to mention that it's college football and anything can happen.

However this game will pit two top BCS ranked schools against one another and the winner will have an impressive resume when the game is complete.

If LSU wins they would be the only one loss team in arguably the toughest conference in all of college football. They would have impressive wins over Arkansas and Alabama and would be a prime Sugar Bowl candidate.

If Arkansas wins they would have ended the season on a six game winning streak that would include wins over three ranked opponents in Mississippi St, LSU and South Carolina. The win over the Gamecocks is extremely impressive considering that they are SEC East champions and the Hogs hammered them in South Carolina.

This is surely one of the better games to watch this weekend and when it is decided on the field it will be interesting to see if one of the teams is rewarded with the BCS Bowl.
