College Football Crapshoot: Can the Texas A&M Aggies Win the Big 12?

Alfred KonuwaNov 19, 2010

[Week 11 Crappy Record: 5-1]

[Cumulative Crappy Record: 44-22]

The dream continues with another strong week by the otherwise indifferent College Football Crapshoot.  Feeling like I can do no wrong, I might just mess around and make an absurd and unfounded upset pick just to make things interesting.  You know what it is.

Here's what I know will happen...

I know Michigan State (-20) will cover vs. Purdue. Purdue has been uncharacteristically competitive against division foes lately, however it should all come crashing down as they on the road to play a well-rested, talented Michigan State team to continue a brutal (for them) in-conference stretch.

Michigan State's running game makes me nervous, but one it gets rolling it should help amplify the fatigue that Purdue has to be feeling at this point.  Michigan State is still in the race to win the Big 10, and they need this on against an inferior opponent.  Chances are, they get it.

I know Ohio State will beat Iowa outright. Iowa is slowly fading fast and Ohio State is still desperate to cling to any semblance of a national title possibility.  The Hawkeyes were obviously looking ahead to what was supposed to be a big showdown game against the Buckeyes, but they lost to the lowly Wildcats in the process rendering this game rather irrelevant.

Ohio State brings a more talented and motivated team that will look to capitalize on the built-in mistakes that Iowa seems to make on a week-to-week basis.

Bring your black roses to Kinnick stadium, Hawkeye fan, because it's all over.

Here's what I think will happen..
.

I think Ole Miss (-20) will cover at LSU. Ole Miss has value coming off of a blowout loss to play a team whose value has now been further inflated with a blowout win over Louisiana-Monroe.  With a season that was lost from the outset with an embarrassing loss to Jacksonville State, Ole Miss needs a feather in it cap moving forward.

While I have remained heavily critical of LSU, I'll at least admit that this is a legit national championship team in a year where nobody really stands out.

Ole Miss will play LSU title with time running out on a disappointing season, and LSU will be prone to falling to an otherwise unassuming foe.  I think.

I think VA Tech will beat Miami to clinch the ACC title. Virginia Tech has pulled off a Phoenix-like comeback after being left for dead when they lost to my neighbor's little league team at home.

Jacory Harris will likely take his turnover to South Beach to start for the Hurricanes, giving the Hokies ample opportunities to put this one away early by capitalizing on his guaranteed interceptions.  I think.

The downside of VA Tech's probable hallmark win is that it keeps Boise State in the discussion after State's blowout win over national title contender Fresno.  Ugh.

Here's what I'm probably wrong about...

I'm probably wrong, but Cal (-6.5) will cover vs. Stanford. I might be a week late on this one as Cal is coming off of an emotional loss against the Oregon Ducks (which is why I'm probably wrong), but this is 'The Big Game' against a divisional opponent at home and Cal is an underdog.

Cal is a completely different team at home and all that Jazz.  If there's one game that could keep Stanford out of Pac-10 ascendancy (other than the game against Oregon, of course) it's this one.  Cal's defense should pose a challenge to future NFL stud Andrew Luck, fake injuries or not, and this is a game that has last second written all over it.

I'm probably wrong, but Texas A&M will beat Nebraska outright.  Texas A&M has come through as oursleeper in the Big 12, and Nebraska may be prone to overlooking these overachievers as the season winds down and a Big 12 Championship becomes more imminent.

Texas A&M will pour all their emotion into a home game against the best team in the Big 12, especially now that Texas (their next opponent) is defunct, thus minimizing the lookahead syndrome.
