Sam Bradford and the Top 5 Candidates for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
Every year, young talent is welcomed into the Nation Football League. Most of these stars in the making make an immediate impact on their new times while some take some time to adjust to the NFL level. We have seen rookies step onto the scene and have no problem adjusting and moving on to great careers.
In the 2010 season, many rookies have stepped up and are making a case for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Here are the top five candidates to bring home the award.
Tony Moeaki, TE, Kansas City Chiefs
1 of 5
A good tight end can be a quarterback's best friend, and a good tight end is what rookie Tony Moeaki is. The third round pick out of Iowa has been a big part of the Chiefs' offensive. Next to wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, Moeaki has been Matt Cassel's second favorite target. Moeaki's solid play lands him in the mix to win offensive rookie of the year.
Stats going into Week 11: 31 receptions, 378 yards, two touchdowns
Colt McCoy, QB, Cleveland Browns
2 of 5
Rookie quarterback Colt McCoy has the Cleveland Brown fans cheering for the first time in recent years. Although the Browns are 3-6, McCoy has led them to victories over the likes of the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots. The Browns also came within seconds to defeating the New York Jets in overtime.
McCoy stepped onto the scene in Week 6 against the Pittsburgh Steelers for his first ever NFL start. McCoy completed 23-of-33 passes for 281 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. If McCoy keeps the Brown fans cheering and plays solid football, he might walk away with the rookie of the year.
Stats going into Week 11: 734 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, 85.2 quarterback rating
Mike Williams, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
3 of 5
Mike Williams, fourth round pick from Syracuse, is a part of the core of young talent in Tampa Bay. Williams has grown to be Josh Freeman's favorite target. Williams has at least four receptions in his last seven games, including his first 100-yard receiving game in a Week 7 victory over the Cardinals.
With fellow rookie receiver Dez Bryant also in the mix, Williams might have a hard time coming away with this award, but he is still a top contender.
Stats going into Week 11: 40 receptions, 627 yards, five touchdowns
Dez Bryant, WR, Dallas Cowboys
4 of 5
The former Oklahoma State star was somewhat feared to be picked by most teams in the first round. Now, Dez Bryant is showcasing why all those teams made a mistake by passing him up. Although the Dallas Cowboys are 2-7 and in last place, Bryant has been nothing but a play maker for Jerry Jones' Cowboys.
The first round pick is getting it done on offense and special teams and will be a star in this league for many years. Bryant has great potential and is one of the favorites to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Stats going into Week 11: 41 receptions, 539 yards, five touchdowns, 14 punt returns, 202 yards, two touchdowns
Sam Bradford, QB, St. Louis Rams
5 of 5
First overall pick Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams have had plenty of reasons to smile in the 2010 season. The Rams were a dreadful 1-5 in 2009 and have exceeded that in 2010 with a 4-5 record through nine games. Bradford has played as well as any rookie quarterback in recent years and has the Rams improving by the week.
The Rams are not a walk in the park anymore and Sam Bradford is the reason why they are contenders in the NFC West.
No. 8 is the favorite to win the rookie of the year.
Stats going into Week 11: 1,925 yards, 12 touchdowns, eight interceptions, 78.2 quarterback rating
