Heisman Trophy: Denard Robinson and Six Others Out of Contention
When you take a look at the major names in the Heisman race at this moment, you will only see the likes of Auburn’s Cam Newton, Oregon’s LaMichael James and Boise State’s Kellen Moore.
With those three being the expected favorites, the vast majority of former candidates made big impacts for their respective teams at the beginning of 2010 but have fizzled out or met the face of the unforeseen injury that plagues all football players during a season.
With that being said, let’s get to the candidates that have been given a stiff arm at a chance of winning the biggest award in major college football.
Andrew Luck
1 of 7
Stats: 208-299 Attempts, 2511 Yards, 22 Touchdowns, Three Rushing Touchdowns
For the future first-round pick, Luck has definitely put up productive numbers for Stanford this season but seems to be the first person on the outside looking in at the trio previously spoken about in the intro of this article.
Marcus Lattimore
2 of 7
Stats: 202 Carries, 964 Yards, 14 Touchdowns, Two Receiving Touchdowns
The freshman sensation for Steve Spurrier is hampered by his class rank this season, but if Lattimore continues to put up the numbers as he has in 2010, the running back will definitely be the discussion in the coming years.
Denard Robinson
3 of 7
Stats: 131-207 Attempts, 1990 Yards, 14 Touchdowns, 12 Rushing Touchdowns
The sophomore quarterback set the college football world on fire at the beginning of the season with big numbers and wins but the nagging knee and leg injuries have all but knocked Robinson out of the race this season.
Andy Dalton
4 of 7
Stats: 185-279 Attempts, 2482 Yards, 23 Touchdowns, Five Rushing Touchdowns
The quarterback of the BCS title game-chasing Horned Frogs has thrown at least one touchdown in every game this season to go with six, but the competition faced is keeping Dalton from being in the discussion for the trophy.
Terrelle Pryor
5 of 7
Stats 160-238 Attempts, 2136 Yards, 22 Touchdowns, four Rushing Touchdowns, Receiving Touchdown
The incoming Heisman favorite for 2010 fell from the spotlight after the Buckeyes’ unsuccessful trip to Camp Randall in mid October after what some would call an unproductive season compared to the Heisman leaders this season.
Colin Kaepernick
6 of 7
Stats: 166-247 Attempts, 2161 Yards, 17 Touchdowns, 15 Touchdowns
For the Nevada quarterback, the curse of the mid major conference has bitten Kaepernick this season, even though if he were at a powerhouse program, he would be beside Newton and James in the Heisman presentation with his numbers in 2010.
Marcus Lattimore
7 of 7
Stats: 202 Carries, 964 Yards, 14 Touchdowns, Two Receiving Touchdowns
The freshman sensation for Steve Spurrier is hampered by his class rank this season but if Lattimore continues to put up the numbers as he has in 2010, the running back will definitely be the discussion in the coming years.
