BCS Rankings: The Uniforms of the BCS Top 25
BCS rankings are up and here we are, standing atop the precipice of the final push of the season in college football. We have dissected the teams ad nauseum. We know all about their quarterback positives and their defensive deficiencies. But what about their looks.
It is one thing to be in the top 25 this late in the season. Really, I am happy for all of you. But some of these teams need to head back to wardrobe. I want a team that dominates and looks good doing it. Here are the BCS rankings, as far as uniforms are concerned.
25. Oklahoma State Cowboys
1 of 25
This is just one hot mess. It looks like an orange regurgitated a tangerine onto a shirt. Orange is never a good color but at least one school does it better.
24. Arizona Wildcats
2 of 25
Do you like red? Well I hope you do, because the top 25 is absolutely littered with the stuff. I drop Arizona this far because they like red so much they decided to completely cover themselves in the stuff.
If they had any left over I am sure they would have colored their helmets red too.
23. Miami Hurricanes
3 of 25
Here is a team that does orange proud, sort of. The student section from "The U" is already loud enough, do you really have to combine green and orange.
If the Joker were a football fan and he decided to start a football team, it would be these exact colors. I can't get behind such villainy.
22. Nevada Wolfpack
4 of 25
If you decide to go with one color to dress yourself in, it better be good. Dark purple is not it.
21. Utah Utes
5 of 25
The Utah Utes decided that boring was a uniform scheme they could get behind.
20. Mississippi State Bulldogs
6 of 25
The one color scheme here is better but not great. The burgundy is imposing but not overbearing. It seems to be missing something, oh yes, a good football team.
19. Arkansas Razorbacks
7 of 25
It looks like the color red is dying a slow death upon the players at Arkansas. Even the Razorback seems to be falling to sleep. Someone wake that pig up.
18. Texas A&M Aggies
8 of 25
Now we are getting somewhere. One dominating color is highlighted by accentuating it by white. My girlfriend just wrote that sentence. It wasn't me.
17. Iowa Hawkeyes
9 of 25
This uniform reminds me of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I have an issue with that. I don't want to be reminded of a storied NFL team when I am watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.
16. South Carolina Gamecocks
10 of 25
I will disregard for a second that their mascot is a glorified chicken. The least they could do is jazz up their uniforms. Oh I see, a slight white strip on the pants. I'm blown away.
15. Wisconsin Badgers
11 of 25
How can we signify that we play for Wisconsin. Let's put cheese on our helmets. No, that won't work, how about an enormous W.
This is the best they could come with?
14. Boise State Broncos
12 of 25
At first I was sold on the loud Boise State Broncos uniforms. It was a welcomed respite from all the damned red going on.
But after literally seven seconds they started to annoy me.
13.Virginia Tech Hokies
13 of 25
Now we are getting down to the schools that do it correctly. Mix in some third color. Play with an off burgundy.
Look at the the Hokies just throwing it down with the fashion.
12. Oklahoma Sooners
14 of 25
Simple yes, but it is classic. It helps being a storied program. I give points to maintaining the classic look as you will see.
11. Michigan State Spartans
15 of 25
The Spartans get a huge boost for taking a chance on bright green. They had the confidence to go out there and say to the crowd, yes we only have two colors. One of them is white and you are going to love it.
10. Missouri Tigers
16 of 25
Here is the top ten. The highly styled uniforms start with Missouri. Usually it would be a quick fail to suit up in only black. But the gold jazzes up the players. Gold and black are classic colors of dominance.
You want your uniform to strike fear in your opponent. Mizzou does just that.
9. Nebraska Cornhuskers
17 of 25
This is a case of pitting the Wisconsin uniform and Nebraska side by side. Who wins out? If you saw both jerseys from afar, you would immediately recall the Cornhuskers. They beat Wisconsin to the punch on this classic look.
8. TCU Horned Frogs
18 of 25
I thought I would get annoyed with this one just as I did with Boise State. But the more I look at the purple on black, the more I like it.
Yes, that is a slight red line on the top of the helmet. It is as if TCU wasn't done blowing your mind, they had to add a special cameo by the most featured color on the list.
7. Stanford Cardinal
19 of 25
Being a Cal fan, I begrudgingly place the Cardinal in the top ten. I have to respect that their moniker is a red color, Cardinal, and yet they didn't go overboard.
Now if we could just get rid of that tree, I would be happy.
6. LSU Tigers
20 of 25
Hey Miami, this is how you pit two seemingly annoying colors together and make it work. Now that I think of it, I may just be over the whole of the Miami student body feeling entitled to collegiate football greatness.
No, I hate their uniforms too.
5. Florida State Seminoles
21 of 25
Florida State knows how to put a uniform together. They rock the gold and dark red. But if that weren't enough they have an arrowhead pointing squarely at their victims.
4. Auburn Tigers
22 of 25
The balance on their uniform complements the balance they produce on the field. The Auburn uniforms are quite soothing. Now if we can get some answers about Cam Newton, I would be a happy camper.
3. Ohio State Buckeyes
23 of 25
No Ohio State player would be complete without some buckeyes adorning the helmet. But I have to ask, what does the kicker do to deserve one?
2. Oregon Ducks
24 of 25
If I were in the meeting to discuss this jersey I would have quickly vetoed. So all black, with yellow, and their will be wings on it? Pass.
But I have to say, for me this works. I give extra credit for having the courage to attempt this one.
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
25 of 25
There you have it. If the national title were based on appearances, Alabama would be the winner hands down.
They maintain the classic look. When you see their uniforms you know exactly who they are. Their helmets are reminders of a long lost era when men were men and uniforms were just something to put on while you crushed the other team.
