BCS Rankings Week 12: Predicting How Top 25 Will Change by Next Week
BCS rankings Week 12 are out and with the way this college football season has gone, we never know what the national landscape is going to look like week-to-week.
With that in mind, we've taken this latest BCS release and projected what each team is going to do this week and where they'll be when the BCS comes out next week
Any thoughts or comments? Leave them below.
No. 25: Florida State
1 of 25
Last Week: Unranked
This Week: 25
Previous Game: 16-13 win over Clemson
Next Game: at Maryland
This game will determine who goes to the ACC title game. Florida State was in the driver's seat in the division until a couple missteps, and the Seminoles don't look like a good football team right now. Maryland blasted Virginia last week and will have some momentum coming into the matchup.
Predicted Ranking: 24
No. 24: Miami
2 of 25
Last Week: Unranked
This Week: 24
Previous Game: 35-10 win over Georgia Tech
Next Game: vs. Virginia Tech
The Miami Hurricanes have had another season that's been filled with struggle, and the seat is getting a bit warmer for coach Randy Shannon in Miami. The Hurricanes faithful expect results and they're just not getting them right now. Jacory Harris has been banged up and it's been a mess of a season so far for the U.
Predicted Ranking: Unranked
No. 23: Utah
3 of 25
Last Week: 14
This Week: 23
Previous Game: 28-3 loss to Notre Dame
Next Game: at San Diego State
In a matter of two weeks, the entire season fell apart for the Utes. Now Utah has to face San Diego State, who gave TCU some issues on Saturday. If the Utes come out flat, San Diego State has shown that it's not going to roll over for anyone. The Utes need to be on upset alert again.
Predicted Ranking: 20
No. 22: Arizona
4 of 25
Last Week: 18
This Week: 22
Previous Game: 24-21 loss to USC
Next Game: at Oregon (Nov. 26)
The Wildcats lost a tough matchup to an underrated USC team and get a week off before having to take on the top-ranked Oregon Ducks in Eugene. Good luck with all of that. The Ducks struggled against California on Saturday but I wouldn't be counting on two poor performances in a row by them.
Predicted Ranking: 19
No. 21: Mississippi State
5 of 25
Last Week: 19
This Week: 21
Previous Game: 30-10 loss to Alabama
Next Game: vs. Arkansas
As if playing Alabama coming off a loss wasn't bad enough, the Bulldogs have to take on Arkansas, which is playing good football right now with Ryan Mallett under center. It's going to be a huge challenge to stop Mallett and that Razorbacks offense, and we'll see if Mississippi State is up to the challenge on defense. I'm guessing the Bulldogs aren't.
Predicted Ranking: 23
No. 20: Iowa
6 of 25
Last Week: 13
This Week: 20
Previous Game: 21-17 loss to Northwestern
Next Game: vs. Ohio State
Iowa suffered a tough blow losing to Northwestern on Saturday, and it ended all hope of a possible Big Ten title win and a trip to the Rose Bowl. However, the Hawkeyes can play spoiler, ruin Ohio State's fun and beat the Buckeyes at home this weekend. The thing is, I don't see that happening.
Predicted Ranking: 22
No. 19: Texas A&M
7 of 25
Last Week: 25
This Week: 19
Previous Game: 42-30 win over Baylor
Next Game: vs. Nebraska
Texas A&M got a big win over Baylor on Saturday and helped shoot the Aggies up the standings in this week's BCS. However, now Texas A&M has to take on Nebraska, and even though the Aggies are hosting the matchup, it's going to be more than a handful and I think the Cornhuskers win this game big.
Predicted Ranking: 21
No. 18: Nevada
8 of 25
Last Week: 21
This Week: 18
Previous Game: 35-34 win over Fresno State
Next Game: vs. New Mexico State
The Wolfpack pulled a win out late against Fresno State in a game that Nevada really should have lost, but a win is a win. The Wolfpack have Boise State in two weeks and can't get caught looking ahead to the Broncos. They need to focus on the task at hand and I believe they will.
Predicted Ranking: 18
No. 17: South Carolina
9 of 25
Last Week: 23
This Week: 17
Previous Game: 36-14 win over Florida
Next Game: vs. Troy
The Gamecocks got a huge win by beating Florida in the Swamp on Saturday night, punching their ticket to the SEC Championship Game, where they'll meet Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers for the right to represent the conference in a BCS bowl game. Troy is just a speed bump to get there.
Predicted Ranking: 17
No. 16: Virginia Tech
10 of 25
Last Week: 20
This Week: 16
Previous Game: 26-10 win over North Carolina
Next Game: at Miami
Virginia Tech has rebounded from an awful start and now is in a prime position to get to the ACC title game. Standing in the way is Miami, who could slow the Hokies' momentum heading into that monster game.
Predicted Ranking: 16
No. 15: Missouri
11 of 25
Last Week: 17
This Week: 15
Previous Game: 38-28 win over Kansas State
Next Game: at Iowa State
The Tigers got a big win against a tough Kansas State team and now get to recover a bit against Iowa State this weekend. If the Tigers can get another win and keep building momentum, Missouri will be rolling into the bowl season.
Predicted Ranking: 15
No. 14: Oklahoma
12 of 25
Last Week: 16
This Week: 14
Previous Game: 45-7 win over Texas Tech
Next Game: at Baylor
While Baylor is no longer ranked, the Bears still are a team that should not be taken lightly or they will sneak up and upset you. Oklahoma has played really well at times this year, and also pretty poorly at times. It all depends on which Sooners team shows up.
Predicted Ranking: 14
No. 13: Arkansas
13 of 25
Last Week: 15
This Week: 13
Previous Game: 58-21 win over UTEP
Next Game: at Mississippi State
Arkansas did its job and beat up on an inferior opponent in UTEP before a game against Mississippi State, which is going to help determine SEC seeding for bowl games this winter. Ryan Mallett is playing really well recently and will need to keep up his high level of play if the Razorbacks want to win this game.
Predicted Ranking: 13
No. 12: Michigan State
14 of 25
Last Week: 11
This Week: 12
Previous Game: 31-8 win over Minnesota
Next Game: vs. Purdue
Michigan State is still in the thick of things when it comes to the Big Ten title. The Spartans will need to win out and will likely be the team that heads to the Rose Bowl to represent the conference in the big game.
Predicted Ranking: 12
No. 11: Alabama
15 of 25
Last Week: 12
This Week: 11
Previous Game: 30-10 win over Mississippi State
Next Game: vs. Georgia State
This isn't exactly what you'd call a test. This is a glorified tune-up for Auburn next week, and that game is huge for both teams. The Crimson Tide would love nothing more than to end the Tigers' undefeated season and keep them out of the national title picture.
Predicted Ranking: 11
No. 10: Oklahoma State
16 of 25
Last Week: 10
This Week: 10
Previous Game: 33-16 win over Texas
Next Game: at Kansas
Oklahoma State is rolling right now and the Cowboys are in the driver's seat in the Big 12 South to get to the conference title game. All Oklahoma State has to do is win out and beat rival Oklahoma in the final game of the season to get to the conference title game. It's not an impossible task by any means, and the Cowboys have what it takes to get it done.
Predicted Ranking: 10
No. 9: Ohio State
17 of 25
Last Week: 9
This Week: 9
Previous Game: 38-14 win over Penn State
Next Game: at Iowa
The Buckeyes started slow against Penn State on Saturday and looked ripe for upset until the wheels fell off for the Nittany Lions. Ohio State stormed back in the second half to take the game rather easily. The Hawkeyes are going to be a much bigger test, but I think Terrelle Pryor and company are up to the task this weekend.
Predicted Ranking: 9
No. 8: Nebraska
18 of 25
Last Week: 8
This Week: 8
Previous Game: 20-3 win over Kansas
Next Game: at Texas A&M
Nebraska is all but in the Big 12 title game and the Cornhuskers are rolling after losing its undefeated season. Nebraska is a tough team to stop and will have a tough test in Texas A&M, but with the Cornhuskers' style of play, I think they'll be fine.
Predicted Ranking: 8
No. 7: Wisconsin
19 of 25
Last Week: 7
This Week: 7
Previous Game: 83-20 win over Indiana
Next Game: at Michigan
Wisconsin dropped 83 on a conference opponent. Let that sink in for a second. That is such a beatdown and so embarrassing if you're an Indiana fan or alumni. The Badgers may be the best one-loss team in the country after that type of performance.
Predicted Ranking: 7
No. 6: Stanford
20 of 25
Last Week: 6
This Week: 6
Previous Game: 17-13 win over Arizona State
Next Game: at California
You know Stanford has to be looking up at Oregon, thinking that it should have been them contending for a national title. That loss will haunt the Cardinal for a long, long time if Stanford runs the table, which I believe it will.
Predicted Ranking: 6
No. 5: LSU
21 of 25
Last Week: 5
This Week: 5
Previous Game: 51-0 win over Louisiana-Monroe
Next Game: vs. Mississippi
Les Miles has his team in a spot where LSU is going to be in a big-time bowl game after a really good season so far. The Tigers are a great team and always entertain when they're on television. That's the beauty of Les Miles. Sure he's borderline insane, but you never know what's going to happen.
Predicted Ranking: 5
No. 4: Boise State
22 of 25
Last Week: 4
This Week: 4
Previous Game: 52-14 win over Idaho
Next Game: vs. Fresno State
The Broncos got a big boost this weekend as Utah lost to Notre Dame, hurting TCU's resume as the Utes were by far the biggest win on the Horned Frogs' resume. Boise State still has a big game against Nevada coming up, and that could hop the Broncos over TCU.
Predicted Ranking: 4
No. 3: TCU
23 of 25
Last Week: 3
This Week: 3
Previous Game: 40-35 win over San Diego State
Next Game: at New Mexico
TCU had quite the scare this week as the Horned Frogs got all they could handle from San Diego State. Boise State is closing in on the Horned Frogs and it looks like TCU may get hopped by Boise State. Utah losing has hurt TCU's resume.
Predicted Ranking: 3
No. 2: Auburn
24 of 25
Last Week: 2
This Week: 2
Previous Game: 49-31 win over Georgia
Next Game: at Alabama (Nov. 26)
With all that's going on around Cam Newton and Auburn in the past couple of weeks, Georgia came in on Saturday and gave the Tigers all they could handle until Auburn kicked it into high gear in the second half and put distance between themselves and the Bulldogs.
Predicted Ranking: 2
No. 1: Oregon
25 of 25
Last Week: 1
This Week: 1
Previous Game: 15-13 win over California
Next Game: vs. Arizona (Nov. 26)
Oregon's offense finally looked human this week as the Ducks struggled to put points up on the board against Cal's defense. If the Golden Bears had any sort of offense, Oregon would have lost that game. However, the Ducks are in great position and have to get by Arizona; it could be smooth sailing after that.
Predicted Ranking: 1
