College Football Rankings: Boise State Against BCS Conference Champions
I love the BCS debate.
Who should be first in the polls? Does Boise St. deserve a shot at the BCS Title game? Is TCU better than the Broncos?
We can argue about this all day, but under this system we will never find out. Everyone keeps trying to take away from what the Broncos are doing, but there is no taking away their two BCS trophies they've won in the last four years.
There is no taking away the fact that in the past four years they've beat the Big-12 Champ, the Pac-10 Champ, the Mountain West Champ and it looks like this year they could have a victory over the ACC Champ.
Everyone can talk about their schedule, but it doesn't matter what conference you play in, it isn't easy to go undefeated. Only 11 teams since 2000 have gone undefeated in the NCAA Football.
Last year, two were left standing, and one of those teams is still undefeated with the same roster, minus one player.
Even though they lost a player, they are all one year more experienced, one year stronger, one year better than they were last year.
The BCS fears teams like Boise and TCU. They had a perfect chance last year to prove they don't belong by putting both of these teams against a BCS conference champion.
Instead of risking both of these teams laying the smack down on a BCS conference champ, they put them against each other.
The better team won.
So how would the Broncos do against the BCS Conference champions? Let's take a look in my Blue Crystal Ball to see how the games would end up playing.
Big East Champion: Pittsburgh Panthers
1 of 6
Pittsburgh currently holds the top spot in the Big East.
The Big East doesn't have a team ranked in the top 25, and they may not have one when the BCS Bowls are given out.
Because they are a BCS Conference they will get a BCS Bowl game anyways.
We'll make this slide quick, because the game between the Broncos and the Panthers would be over faster than than the time it took me to make this slide.
Broncos win in an old fashioned butt whoopin. Kellen Moore and his offense light up the scoreboard.
Final Score 56-13.
ACC Champion: Virginia Tech
2 of 6
The Hokies are undefeated in ACC Conference play and look like the favorites to win the conference.
They hosted the Broncos in a "Nuetral" site to start the season. They followed that loss by losing to James Madison.
Bronco Haters started discrediting Boise for that win and continue to do so.
People argue that the win wasn't that big for the Broncos, because the Hokies lost to a FBS team. Well if that is the case and the Hokies do win the ACC Championship, then the ACC is weaker than the Big East, right?
Seven wins in a row later, the Hokies are the team to beat in the ACC.
Both teams have gotten better, but what would happen if they played again?
I don't see the Hokies stopping the Broncos offense, and the Broncos defense will do enough to hold the Hokies back.
Kellen Moore needed no more than two minutes to take the lead away from the Hokies late in the fourth quarter in the first game.
Broncos win the rematch, 34-23.
Big 12 Champion: Nebraska Cornhuskers
3 of 6
Will the real Big 12 Champion please stand up?
Every time we look at the Big 12 there is a new favorite to win the conference.
How would the Cornhuskers, who are the flavor of the week in the Big 12, do against the Broncos?
In this game the Broncos would come out shooting running their no huddle offense. The Cornhuskers keep it close in the first half, but don't have the passing offense to keep up with the Bronocs.
The Broncos defense is very underrated. They have plenty of play-makers on that side of the ball.
Look for the Broncos to pull away from Nebraska late in the third quarter. Nebraska will score in the fourth, but it will be too late by then.
Broncos win 37-32
Big Ten Champion: Michigan State Spartans
4 of 6
If the Spartans win out, they could win the Big Ten. They have a win over Wisconsin and that win could be crucial as the season comes to a close. Ohio State and Wisconsin could also be the Big Ten Champs, but let's look at the Spartans.
The Spartans and Broncos will meet in East Lansing, Michigan in 2012.
Could they meet this year? I believe a Rose Bowl match up is a very real possibility.
The Spartans would have the same problem most teams will have against the Broncos: How to stop Kellen Moore and the Broncos offense.
Austin Pettis and Titus Young will be too much for the Spartans to handle. The depth at running back for the Broncos will be key as well.
Look for the Broncos to have good game against the Spartans secondary.
Broncos win 38-24.
Pac 10 Champion: Oregon Ducks
5 of 6
The Oregon Ducks have an offense than can score anywhere at anytime. They've looked good this year, but how would they do against a Boise offense that has the ability to score as well?
The Broncos would be in an offensive shoot out against the Ducks. Last year the Ducks visited the Broncos, and the story of that game was the punch by LaGarrette Blount.
It should have been about the beating the Ducks offense took in Boise. They didn't get a first down until the third quarter of the game.
They were dominated by the physical play of the Broncos defense. The Ducks later went on the win the Pac 10 title.
If they played this year again, I see a high scoring game with the same result as the last two times both teams have played each other.
Broncos bust the Ducks hopes in a high scoring thriller. 39-45 Broncos win.
SEC Champion: Auburn Tigers
6 of 6
If there is one conference that stands out with a team designed to beat the Broncos, it's the SEC. How can anyone argue that the SEC is not the best conference in the Nation?
This may be a down year for the SEC and there are still some big match ups left to be played, but they play a tough physical style of football.
The Broncos can play physical as well. They do have the ability to run the ball and stop the run on defense.
This game would be much closer than most people think.
Kellen Moore v. Cam Newton would be a great match up. Moore seems to be the better pocket passer, but Newton has the athletic ability to overcome that.
This game would be a game for the ages. It won't be the David v. Goliath game that everyone expects. This would be a game between two powerhouse teams that know how to win.
You have a team that is looking to win back to back BCS Bowl games in Boise St. and a team that won the best conference in the Nation.
Auburn wins in a close game. 34-31.
