Maryland Terrapins Football Creating Slight Buzz on Campus

Its coming, I can feel it, and I can't wait for it to get here. Football is almost important on the Maryland campus. Students that normally wouldn't go to a football game on a sunny 70 degree day are now getting tickets for a game at night in the end of November. Why this change? Two simple reasons.

1.   The Football Team is Winning: They may have only beaten teams they were supposed to, but they didn't lose those games either, and that is what is more important. You could tell things were going to be better this year when they somehow found a way to stop the triple option and beat Navy.

They took care of both the non- and in-conference opponents that they should have, and even managed to stick with Miami until the final minutes. The Terps have six wins and should have seven after this weekend, a five-game improvement from last year's two. The Terps probably will not beat FSU or NC State, but if they do just imagine, Byrd Stadium may sell out!

The second reason is probably what really is making the difference.

2.   The Basketball Team is Not as Good This Year: Anyone who has watched any of the Terps basketball games this year can tell you that this is not the same team as last year. The Terps are young, and far from a Sweet 16, should have been elite eight, should have been final four team.

Maryland is a very sports-oriented campus, and if basketball isn't going to cut it, football will happily take its fans. The basketball Terps will come around and the fans will flock to the Comcast Center for ACC season, but right now it seems that football is the talk of the town, after Thirsty Turtle closing of course.

I'm really looking forward to next weekend's blackout game against Florida State, and I hope the rest of the Terps fans will join me.
