Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Could One Day Manage Manchester United

Andrew JordanNov 9, 2010

After spending the last 14 years with Manchester United as both a player and reserve-team manager for the reserves, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left Manchester United to manage Molde in Norway's Tippeligaen.

During his time with Man United, Solskjaer scored 126 goals and won six Premier League trophies.

But Solskjaer will always be remembered for scoring the winning goal in the 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich in the dying seconds of stoppage time, completing the only English treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League in history.

After retiring in 2007 following a serious knee injury, Solskjaer became the coach for the strikers on the first team during the 2007–08 season.

And with the start of the 2008-2009 season, Solskjaer became United's reserve-team manager.

Last season, Solskjaer won the Premier Reserve League as well as the Lancashire and Manchester Senior Cups in 2009.

Now, Solskjaer will return to the last club that he played before joining Manchester United in 1996, once Molde's new season begins.

Overall, this move for Solskjaer is fantastic for his managerial future, as he will get an opportunity to manage a side that is in the first division and will look to probably move on to a bigger side in the future.

However, this move also puts Solskjaer in a stronger position to one day manage Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson retires.

Now at the age of 68 and after spending 24 years in charge of the Red Devils, it is unknown how much longer Fergie will still manage the club.

And with Solskjaer being a Manchester United legend, it would only make sense that he could one day replace Fergie at Old Trafford.

Despite the rumor that Jose Mourinho would in all likelihood replace Sir Alex once he leaves, Solskjaer now at least can consider himself a legitimate contender for the United job.

In the future, no one knows how successful Solskjaer will be or it he will ever rejoin Manchester United, but this move is great for Solskjaer as he starts off his managerial career.

And if he is able to repeat the dedication he showed as a player, Solskjaer will certainly succeed in his new position.
