Miami Hurricanes Wreck Georgia Tech 35-10: Continue Rollercoaster Season

Benny VargasNov 13, 2010

Hot and cold, up and down. That is the way this Hurricanes football season seems to be unfolding.

One never knows which Miami team will show up from one week to the next.

I still feel a coaching change was needed after the Virginia game but now, after back-to-back wins, the shortsighted fans will come out in droves declaring that we have a great chief leading the way. After all our coaching staff decided to start a freshman in two big conference games.

Even when he wins a game things seem to go bad for Randy Shannon. That was the case a week ago when Stephen Morris proved Miami has more than one capable quarterback on their roster. It seemed as though the program was on a Titanic-like collision course with a full out QB controversy.

Then this week the true freshman turned heads again in leading the 'Canes to a 35-10 win at Georgia Tech.

The question that should be asked now is why wasn't Morris allowed to challenge for the position in camp? He arrived at school a semester early so he had plenty of time to learn the offense. Didn't our coaches see all the intangibles he brings that Jacory Harris does not?

Don't look now Randy but you're in a no-win situation. Well that's not completely accurate but think about it: regardless of who he goes with, should something go wrong, it will likely mean the end of Coach Shannon in Miami.

So go ahead Coach, pick your poison. Will you go with the young and upcoming teenager that seems to have a load of potential or do you stick with the guy that two-plus years ago you entrusted the success of your team with and has given you mixed results at best?

It has becoming glaringly obvious that this team does have the talent needed to be a top-echelon contender. However the coaching has been so sub-par that it has managed to torpedo this season from the very start.

Therefore we get results like today's victory. How on Earth was this team demolished at home by Florida State? Even worse how the heck did they ever lose to a pathetic squad like Virginia's? That loss to the Cavaliers took Miami's destiny out of its own hands. The Hurricanes now need to beat the Hokies and hope they lose another game as well.

Good luck with the second part of that equation. Looks like no conference championship once more and yet again another mediocre season and bowl for our 'Canes.

Promising signs include the play of Lamar Miller. I knew coming out of camp he was their best back and said so in a previous article. Even then I had no idea he was going to be this good this fast. Make no mistakes, barring an injury this guy is an NFL first-round lock.

Leonard Hankerson is also showing that Allen Bailey might not be the only Miami player taken on the first day of next year's draft.
