BCS Rankings Week 11: Predicting How the Top 25 Will Change by Next Week
It was another weekend of college football, and there were games that shook up where some teams were last week to where they will be when the BCS polls are released on Sunday night.
What didn't change were the teams at the top of the polls, Oregon and Auburn. These two teams continue to show that they are the best teams in the nation and it doesn't look like anything is going to change any time soon.
What happens now is trying to predict what happens when the week 11 of the college football season comes to a close and the next BCS poll is released.
Who goes where, who wins, who loses, and who makes a fool of themselves and screws up any chances of a solid season?
These are all questions guys like me have fun with because it gives me a chance to look into the crystal ball that I keep in the closet and see if it lets me see the future. Most of the time it doesn't but if I speak nicely to it, it just might.
Care to come along and peak into the future? I was hoping you would be.
25. Texas A&M
1 of 25
Last week: Unranked
This week: No. 25
Last game: 33-19 over 8th ranked Oklahoma
Next game: Nov. 13th at Baylor
The Aggies have been going in the right direction since they transitioned to quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Three straight wins including this past Saturday against Oklahoma and the Aggies are feeling good.
They won't have it any easier next week, as they head to Baylor to take on a very good Bears team.
Predicted ranking: 21
24. Kansas State
2 of 25
Last week: Unranked
This week: No. 24
Previous game: 39-14 over Texas
Next game: Nov. 13th at (17) Missouri
Kansas State had won their first four games, but they have since dropped three of their last five games. As a result, they had the 24th ranking in the new BCS poll.
They may not be there for long, however, as they'll be on the road against Missouri.
Predicted ranking: Unranked
23. South Carolina
3 of 25
Last week: No. 19
This week: No. 23
Previous game: 40-21 loss vs (18) Arkansas
Next game: Nov. 13th at (22) Florida
South Carolina knocked off top ranked Alabama and followed that up with a loss on the road against Kentucky.
They did get past Vanderbilt and Tennessee but Arkansas offense was too much for them to deal with even at home.
Predicted ranking: Unranked
22. Florida
4 of 25
Last week: Unranked
This week: No. 22
Previous game: 55-14 over Vanderbilt
Next game: Nov. 13th vs (23) South Carolina
The Florida Gators aren't quite having the kind of season that fans have been used to. They're using to seeing an unbeaten team, yet, they also aren't the team led by Tim Tebow.
Predicted ranking: 18
21. Nevada
5 of 25
Last week: No. 23
This week: No. 21
Previous game: 63-17 over Idaho
Next game: Nov. 13th at Fresno State
I know I had been the one to say I couldn't understand how Nevada could be ranked in the top 25 but Hawaii was still on the outside looking in, especially after the Warriors knocked them off a few weeks ago.
But, with Hawaii getting trounced by Boise State and Nevada winning big, I guess that ends the argument.
Predicted ranking: Unranked
20. Virginia Tech
6 of 25
Last week: No. 22
This week: No. 20
Previous game: 28-21 over Georgia Tech
Next game: Nov. 13th at North Carolina
The Hokies picked up their seventh straight win after knocking off Georgia Tech. Since their slow start to the season with losses to Boise State and James Madison, Virginia Tech seems to have figured things out.
Predicted ranking: 17
19. Mississippi State
7 of 25
Last week: No. 20
This week: No. 19
Previous game: 24-17 over Kentucky
Next game: Nov. 13th at (12) Alabama
Mississippi State, after losing two of their first three games, have picked up wins in their last six straight.
However, that run may come to an end this coming weekend against Alabama, especially on the road.
Predicted ranking: 23
18. Arizona
8 of 25
Last week: No. 15
This week: No. 18
Previous game: 42-17 loss at (6) Stanford
Next game: Nov. 13th vs USC
The Arizona Wildcats ran into a very good Stanford team, but it doesn't mean that this team is any worse. They do have a big win over Iowa earlier in the season but their loss to Oregon State isn't looking so hot right now.
Predicted ranking: 16
17. Missouri
9 of 25
Last week: No. 12
This week: No. 17
Previous game: 24-17 loss at Texas Tech
Next game: Nov. 13th vs (24) Kansas State
I've never been one that was sold on Missouri, especially after they nearly lost to San Diego State at home a few weeks ago.
When they were ranked in the top 10, I knew it wasn't going to last long with the schedule they had in front of them.
Predicted ranking: 15
16. Oklahoma
10 of 25
Last week: No. 8
This week: No. 16
Previous game: 33-19 loss at (25) Texas A&M
Next game: Nov. 13th vs. Texas Tech
Oh how far the mighty have fallen. I remember the week that Oklahoma was ranked number one by the first BCS poll. There were a ton of fans and media alike that were crying foul with this one.
Since that game, the Sooners have dropped two of their last three and have gone from number one to number 16.
Predicted ranking: 14
15. Arkansas
11 of 25
Last week: No. 18
This week: No. 15
Previous game: 41-20 win over South Carolina
Next game: Nov. 13th vs UTEP
Arkansas got a big win over South Carolina as they head to a theoretical off week as they welcome in UTEP for a non-conference game.
But, their year is far from done as they close the season on the road at Mississippi State and at home against LSU.
Predicted ranking: 14
14. Utah
12 of 25
Last week: No. 5
This week: No. 14
Previous game: 47-7 loss vs TCU
Next game: Nov. 13th at Notre Dame
It's not that Utah isn't a good team but TCU is that much better, especially defensively. It was supposed to be a big time show down, but the Horned Frogs made quick work of the Utes and turned it into a snooze fest.
Predicted ranking: 13
13. Iowa
13 of 25
Last week: No. 16
This week: No. 13
Previous game: 18-13 win at Indiana
Next game: Nov. 13th at Northwestern
Since their loss to Arizona, the Iowa Hawkeyes have five of their last six including wins over Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State, their lone loss coming against Wisconsin.
They have Northwestern before a showdown against Ohio State in less than two weeks.
Predicted ranking: 11
12. Alabama
14 of 25
Last week: No. 6
This week: No. 12
Previous game: 24-21 loss at LSU
Next game: Nov. 13th vs Mississippi State
With their loss to LSU, the Crimson Tide had their run to a back-to-back championships ended. But it doesn't mean their season is over and that ride begins at home against the Bulldogs.
Predicted ranking: 10
11. Michigan State
15 of 25
Last week: No. 14
This week: No. 11
Previous game: 31-8 win over Minnesota
Next game: Nov. 20th vs Purdue
It looked for awhile like Michigan State would be a surprise candidate for the top spot in the BCS. Unfortunately, the Spartans ran in to a very good Iowa team and it ended that dream.
They will have an off week before taking on Purdue at home in two weeks.
Predicted ranking: 13
10. Oklahoma State
16 of 25
Last week: No. 17
This week: No. 10
Previous game: 55-28 win over Baylor
Next game: Nov. 13th at Texas
There was a lot of talk about the game between them and Baylor going into this past Saturday. The Bears were playing good football and were coming off a blowout win over Texas.
However, Oklahoma State came prepared and they made Baylor look like just another non-conference opponent.
Predicted ranking: 10
9. Ohio State
17 of 25
Last week: No. 11
This week: No. 9
Previous game: 52-10 win over Minnesota
Next game: Nov. 13th vs Penn State
Ohio State was another team that succumbed to the number one jinx, the same jinx that Alabama and Oklahoma also fell to.
After their loss on the road to Wisconsin, they've picked up back-to-back wins against Purdue and Minnesota to move up inside the top 10.
Predicted ranking: 8
8. Nebraska
18 of 25
Last week: No. 7
This week: No. 8
Previous game: 31-30 win over Iowa State
Next game: Nov. 13th vs Kansas
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have been climbing the polls, but their loss to Texas isn't really doing them any favors at this point, especially after this past Saturday.
However, it seems the BCS poll isn't looking at that at all as they have them ranked inside the top 10.
Predicted ranking: 9
7. Wisconsin
19 of 25
Last week: No. 9
This week: No. 7
Previous game: 43-13 win at Purdue
Next game: Nov. 13th vs Indiana
The Wisconsin Badgers have their fans believing that they're in for a great season this year. After taking down top ranked Ohio State followed by Iowa in consecutive games.
With Indiana, a road game at Michigan, and finishing at home against Northwestern, the Badgers could be staring at a big BCS game in the eye real soon.
Predicted ranking: 7
6. Stanford
20 of 25
Last week: No. 13
This week: No. 6
Previous game: 42-17 win over Arizona
Next game: Nov. 13th at Arizona State
With their only loss coming against top ranked Oregon, Stanford hasn't missed a beat since with wins coming against USC and Arizona.
If they keep this up, Boise State's ranking could be in trouble.
Predicted ranking: 6
5. LSU
21 of 25
Last week: No. 10
This week: No. 5
Previous game: 24-21 win over Alabama
Next game: Nov. 13th vs Louisiana-Monroe
If there's anyone that will possibly threaten Boise State's spot in the top five it's going to be LSU. In fact, they're not far away from doing just that.
Predicted ranking: 5
4. Boise State
22 of 25
Last week: No. 4
This week: No. 4
Previous game: 42-7 win over Hawaii
Next game: Nov. 12th at Idaho
There's an outcry from Boise State fans like you've never heard before. They've been jumped by not only Auburn but TCU now as well. Though I will say, TCU's jump is well deserved.
Predicted ranking: 4
3. TCU
23 of 25
Last week: No. 3
This week: No. 3
Previous game: 47-7 win over Utah
Next game: Nov. 13th vs San Diego State
I'm going to stop just short of calling this a trap game for TCU but what I saw from the Horned Frogs against Utah, not to mention on the road, makes me wonder just how bad this blowout will be next Saturday.
Don't get me wrong, San Diego State is a good team, but not anywhere near TCU.
Predicted ranking: 3
2. Auburn
24 of 25
Last week: No. 2
This week: No. 2
Previous game: 62-24 over Chattanooga
Next game: Nov. 13th vs Georgia
The Auburn Tigers are in the middle of what could be a bad time for the NCAA to investigate. There were allegations of improper benefits to quarterback Cam Newton but there's no indication he knew anything about, though I'm sure we'll find out if that's the truth soon enough.
Predicted ranking: 2
1. Oregon
25 of 25
Last week: No. 1
This week: No. 1
Previous game: 53-16 win over Washington
Next game: Nov. 13th at Cal
The Oregon Ducks, and their fans by the look of the picture, are having fun this season and why shouldn't they be.
They've been blowing out everyone in their path and putting up big numbers while they're doing just that. With Cal, Arizona, and Oregon State left on their schedule, I don't see why the BCS title game wouldn't be in their future.
Predicted ranking: 1
