Can Damien Comolli's Appointment at Liverpool Move St. Etienne Duo To Anfield?
Liverpool FC have taken a step in a new direction after the appointment of Damien Comolli as their director of sports strategy. The former chief scout of Arsenal and Tottenham is considered to have done a pretty good job at both those clubs.
Damien Comolli's work at Liverpool could well be an equally daunting one if not more. Liverpool currently lie a lowly 12th in the league table and with some 50 days to go before the winter transfer window re-opens, Comolli's job could very well intensify.
However, given his last post at St. Etienne, Comolli may well have two ready made solutions to Liverpool's current problems. Although buying a striker remains a high priority for the club, the fans are very well aware of the problems that the club faces when it comes to defensive mid-field and the wings.

It is in those two positions that St. Etienne have two very gifted players who are also very young and exciting, the criteria that Liverpool's current new owners John W. Henry points out as a must.
In Blaise Matuidi at defensive mid-field and Dimitri Payet on the wings, Roy Hodgson may well correct the wrongs he did in the summer transfer window when he went for average talents like Konchesky and Poulsen.
Blaise Matuidi is an extremely promising talent who has attracted attention from almost all the big clubs in Europe, including the eagle eyes of Arsene Wenger and Juventus, amongst a host of others. The player could easily replace Poulsen very well and be a regular in the current Liverpool set-up.
The player also has abilities as a good play maker and is very much a box to box mid-fielder, thus adding stability both at the back and going forward. He has so far scored three times for the French outfit.
Dimitri Payet is more of a pacey winger who was rumored to be a Liverpool target not so long ago and the news that scouts are keeping an eye on him may well be very correct. The winger seems to have a lot of speed and also has attracted a lot of good clubs in England and Italy.Payet has also scored 13 times for St.Etienne and going by the video along side he seems quite a talent.
Both the players are 23 years of age and should fit in perfectly in the current Liverpool set-up without too much of alteration to the core squad. What could be more attractive is also the fact that both the players may not really cost a fortune as some other reputed one would in those positions.
All in all buying the pair may well be a win-win thing for Liverpool FC.
