NFL Picks Week 8: Will Brett Favre Keep Streak Alive Vs. New England Patriots?
NFL picks Week 8 edition are here, and it's time to break down every game on the schedule, including the big Minnesota-New England game on Sunday afternoon.
The big question is if Brett Favre will play in that game and keep his iconic streak alive against the Patriots. I'll answer that question and give you winners and score predictions for each game.
If you agree or disagree, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.
San Francisco Vs. Denver
1 of 13
This is the yearly game in London, and I hope that the people over in England are ready to see some bad football, because they're going to get it.
The 49ers and Broncos are both struggling, and there have even been some cries to start Tim Tebow over Kyle Orton at quarterback. In San Fran, Troy Smith is going to be the quarterback after Alex Smith suffered a shoulder injury last week against Carolina.
While it's two bad teams, someone's got to win, so why not the 49ers?
Prediction: San Francisco 24, Denver 20
Jacksonville Vs. Dallas
2 of 13
This will be the first game for the Dallas Cowboys without Tony Romo, and we'll see how Jon Kitna handles the pressure behind that weak offensive line.
Meanwhile, Jacksonville has lost two games in a row, and David Garrard should be back in the lineup on Sunday after practicing this week, completing his comeback from the concussion he suffered against the Titans two weeks ago.
The game is in Dallas, and I think the Cowboys can sneak this one out with how bad the Jags have been.
Prediction: Dallas 20, Jacksonville 13
Washington Vs. Detroit
3 of 13
Washington is trying to stay in the race for the NFC East crown, while Detroit is just trying to get back in the win column with its franchise quarterback back in the lineup.
Matthew Stafford will return to the field for the first time since Week 1, when he suffered a shoulder injury and had to sit out to heal the injury. Shaun Hill did a good job of running the offense in Stafford's absence, so it will be interesting to see how he responds after being away from the team for so long.
However, I think the Redskins just have too many weapons and are too strong on defense.
Prediction: Washington 31, Detroit 23
Green Bay Vs. NY Jets
4 of 13
The Jets are coming off a bye week, and the Packers are coming off a big win against Minnesota and are right in the thick of things in the NFC North.
New York is one of the best teams in the AFC, and after a very slow start to the season against Baltimore, the Jets look like the Super Bowl contenders that everyone thought they were coming into this season. LaDainian Tomlinson looks reborn, and I think he'll be too much for a dinged-up Packer team.
Prediction: New York 31, Green Bay 21
Carolina Vs. St. Louis
5 of 13
The Rams are one of the most pleasant surprises in all of football this year and are right in the hunt for the NFC West crown.
Meanwhile, Carolina has just fallen off the face of the earth. The past year and a half has been brutal for Panthers fans, and even though Carolina just got its first win against San Francisco last week, I'm not exactly holding out hope for a win streak.
The Rams are a scrappy team; it's just a matter of being able to close out games.
Prediction: St. Louis 23, Carolina 21
Miami Vs. Cincinnati
6 of 13
The Bengals are reeling, and the Dolphins are coming off having a game ripped out of their hands by the referees.
Miami has lost all of its home games this year, but at the same time the Dolphins have won all of their road games, going 3-0 on the road. Good for Miami that it is traveling north to take on the Bengals, who lost to Atlanta last week after a comeback fell short.
I have no faith in Cincy, so Miami it is.
Prediction: Miami 34, Cincinnati 20
Buffalo Vs. Kansas City
7 of 13
The Chiefs are in the driver's seat in the AFC West. I still can't wrap my head around it, but it's reality.
Kansas City will take on a Buffalo team that almost pulled out a victory against the Baltimore Ravens last week in a game that let down Bills fans for what seems like the millionth time. If you see a Bills fans on the street, you may just want to give that person a hug.
They'll probably need one after this game too.
Prediction: Kansas City 24, Buffalo 21
Tennessee Vs. San Diego
8 of 13
Tennessee is rolling after three straight victories, capped by a huge comeback win against the Eagles last Sunday.
On the flip side, San Diego is struggling after another close loss, this time against the Patriots, where the Chargers shot themselves in the foot yet again. Norv Turner's job has to be in jeopardy with the way this team has performed and let its fans down.
But the Titans struggle against the Chargers historically, and until Tennessee beats San Diego, I'm going with the Bolts.
Prediction: San Diego 35, Tennessee 27
Tampa Bay Vs. Arizona
9 of 13
This isn't exactly a game that leaps off the page and makes you want to find a way to watch it.
Tampa Bay is 4-2, and head coach Raheem Morris says that the Buccaneers are the team to beat in the NFC. You'll hear no more damning commentary on the state of the NFC than that one right there. The Bucs really haven't beaten anyone good this year, and I'm not sold on them yet.
However, they are better than Arizona.
Prediction: Tampa Bay 26, Arizona 13
Seattle Vs. Oakland
10 of 13
Oakland is coming off its biggest win of the season. The Raiders totally throttled the Broncos and embarrassed their division rival, scoring 59 points in the rout.
Seattle has been a team that has been a lot tougher than people thought coming into the season. Pete Carroll cleaned house, yet the Seahawks are right in the hunt for the NFC West title this season. A lot of people questioned the hire of Carroll, and he's proving the doubters wrong.
Look for a strong performance this weekend.
Prediction: Seattle 24, Oakland 10
Minnesota Vs. New England
11 of 13
Let's just get this out of the way—Brett Favre will play for the Vikings this weekend.
Brad Childress will have to shoot Favre to keep him from getting out on the field, especially after he said he wants to play in front of the media. There's no way Tarvaris Jackson gets the start in a million years. Childress has no possible leverage because he doesn't want to be known as the man who killed The Streak.
Too bad Favre's presence won't help the Vikings, as the Patriots should win this game and continue to be one of the best teams in the AFC.
Prediction: New England 27, Minnesota 13
Pittsburgh Vs. New Orleans
12 of 13
Okay, even though Pittsburgh escaped with a win against Miami, the Steelers are still the best team in the league.
New Orleans, on the other hand, just lost to Cleveland at home, which is probably the most embarrassing thing possible for a defending champion. Injuries have paid a toll on the Saints, but that only stands for so much. This isn't the same team as last year.
That will really be proven this week against a tough defense.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 31, New Orleans 23
Houston Vs. Indianapolis
13 of 13
Houston dominated the Colts in Week 1, running up and down the field on Indianapolis, who had no answer but to sling the ball all over the field with Peyton Manning.
The Colts are limping into this game, and both teams are coming off a bye week, but the Texans have a lot more weapons than Indianapolis at this point. However, we've learned one thing over the years: Do not, under any circumstances, bet against Peyton Manning in a prime time regular season game.
The Colts will win this game and split the season series with Houston.
Prediction: Indianapolis 41, Houston 35
