Monday Morning Cornerback: Week 8
Oregon is my clear-cut choice for college football's No. 1 ranking.
After dismantling the same UCLA team that beat Texas at home, the Ducks are the flyest team in the nation.
Why is Mizzou getting so much love? Look at the film please… Oklahoma reached the redzone three times and came away with nothing, gifting Missouri the win.
TCU has earned my respect after a great win over Air Force.
Come to think of it, TCU and Boise St. in the championship could be a great rematch of the 2010 Fiesta Bowl.
Cam Netwon, you are a beast my friend. Pure beast. Newton has me feeling pretty good about picking Auburn to win the national title this summer. On the flipside, LSU played better than expected.
Alabama is still in prime position to win the national championship. I’m salivating for Thanksgiving weekend's Iron Bowl.
You have to respect Michigan State. They are the greatest storyline of the season. Unexpected Big Ten leader, comebacks, trick plays, heart attacks—for head coach and fans.
Utah is still lurking.
Great win for Wisconsin. Although the other half of 6Magazine, Claude Clayborne, will not agree with me, the Big Ten is the best conference in football this year.
Ohio State is now the biggest MSU hater in all the land. And Terrelle Pryor has gone from the Top 2 in the nation to the Second 2. Insert Cam Netwon.
Top pick in the 2010 NFL draft… no big surprise here—Andrew Luck. Standford continues to be overlooked despite their high ranking.
In any other year in the Big Ten, Iowa would be an alpha dog. But the conference decided to get that “old thang back” before they added Nebraska to the mix. Sowy Chawy.
Best game of the weekend was Nebraska and OSU, hands down. Taylor Martinez struggled last week but played his ass off on the road.
Arizona looked good didn’t they? Whoever talked Jake Locker into coming back this season needs to be FIRED.
You don’t want any part of Josh Cooper from OSU. Not a fingernail, a hair follicle, nothing. The boy is cold!
Missouri won. Fair and square, kinda. #bitterSooner
South Carolina got back on track with a win at Vanderbilt.
When I saw that West Virginia lost to Syracuse, I figured the Mountaineers were really stinking it up. But then I watched the highlights and got the good word game recap from a friend, and 'Cuse is not bad this season.
Texas apparently had nothing left in the tank after the Nebraska win, because they got their asses whipped by an Iowa State team that just got their pride questioned in an OU loss last week. Virginia Tech probably wants a do over for their first two games of the season right about now.
It's nice to see Mississippi State winning again.
When Jacory Harris plays like he is supposed to, The U is pretty good.
NFL
Wasn’t Cincy supposed to peak this year? Imagine if Roddy White played like this when Mike Vick had him.
The Dolphins got jobbed…badly.
Ravens almost got caught sleeping against Buffalo, but Ray Lewis came through in the clutch as always. Ed Reed looked like he’d been playing all season with two picks and a fumble recovery.
I must admit that the Chiefs are the season's most entertaining team. The energy of their fans and young players is chilling.
New Orleans is still partying from the 2009 season. Only problem is it’s 2010 jerktards.
Jay Cutler went to Vanderbilt for a reason. DeAngelo Hall had the game of his life with four picks and even took one back to the house. Hall immediately asked for a contract extension after this game.
Congrats Carolina, you finally won a game… against the 49ers. I guess you take what you can get.
At the beginning of the 2000s, the St. Louis versus Tampa Bay game was a big deal. It’s lost its luster of late, but the two young guns in Sam Bradford and Josh Freeman balled out. These two teams will be kings of the NFC in two years. Of Freeman's seven career victories, five are of the comeback variety.
One minute Philly is hot, next minute they’re not.
QB controversy in Nashville, maybe.
So… Earl Thomas for rookie of the year. Yep. What if Brett Favre retired and Kurt Warner didn’t?
Although San Diego is 2-5, they’ve only been beaten once. I don’t think Bill Belichick is going for it anymore on 4th and 1.
Raider Nation, baby. 59 -14, Oakland vs. Denver. Keep it up D-Mac, please, keep it up.
It’s about to get very interesting in Minnesota.
Don’t think I’m copying Peter King in his MMQB, which I love and think you should read….
But I can almost guarantee you that one of his quotes of the week will be Packers head coach Mike McCarthy:
“Where the hell is everybody, we won the game.”
Sorry homie, but you’re not as interesting as Brad Childress and Brett Favre, even at home, after a win.
