NFL Scores Week 7: Brett Favre Is a Big-Time Headache And 25 Things We Learned
NFL Week 7 brought another round of upsets, a blowout and the latest chapter in the Brett Favre saga—but we did learn a lot from the mayhem.
We learned certain teams won't just lay down because the statistics say they should. We also learned good players will make the difference in a game if you let them.
We also learned the Jenn Sterger story isn't going away just quite yet, and that Favre still has problems with interceptions, texting scandal or no texting scandal.
Click on to read the 25 things we learned about the NFL this week.
Carson Palmer Can Still Throw
1 of 25
Carson Palmer threw for more than 400 yards in a losing effort on Sunday. While the losing wasn't so good for the Bengals, it shows Palmer still can rack up the yards under pressure.
The Dolphins Can't Win At Home So Far This Year
2 of 25
The Miami Dolphins have fallen to 3-3 this year, with all three losses coming in front of the home crowd.
Whether this trend will continue remains to be seen, but three home losses for a team this talented is a lot at this point in the season.
The Buffalo Bills Will Play You Hard
3 of 25
For the second time this year, the Buffalo Bills put up a lot of points against a statistically superior team.
The Bills now have hung in the game vs. the Patriots and the Ravens. There are no moral victories in the NFL, but this is about as close as it gets with a team that still is winless after Week 7.
Todd Bouman Can Still Play
4 of 25
Just signed off the street after not having played in a regular season game in more than a year, Todd Bouman played well in a losing effort to Kansas City.
Bouman threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the game. There were two picks, but that's pretty good considering the limited amount of reps Bouman had coming into the game.
DeAngelo Hall Can Catch A Pass
5 of 25
DeAngelo Hall intercepted Jay Cutler four times on Sunday. To repeat, Cutler didn't just throw four interceptions, he threw them all to the same guy.
It's possible he could've thrown a fifth, but the game ended and they stopped keeping track.
Mike Singletary Believes In His Team
6 of 25
When asked after the game if he was starting to accept the fact his team just wasn't very good, Mike Singletary said, "No," and went to say how convinced he was this team would pull it together and correct the mistakes.
That's what you like to hear out of your coach, but then again, considering the Niners only have won one game, he may just be delusional.
Sam Bradford Can't Win Them All
7 of 25
Sam Bradford wasn't the star of the day for the St. Louis Rams, that would be running back Steven Jackson, who had 110 rushing yards on the day.
Bradford threw two short touchdown passes, but showed he's not ready to completely take over a game yet.
Andy Reid Likes Michael Vick Better
8 of 25
After losing to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid announced Michael Vick would start the next game.
Kevin Kolb just didn't get enough going on Sunday to keep his starting job, and the edge in the quarterback drama in Philly swings back to Vick.
Arizona Has No Quarterback
9 of 25
While Philadelphia switches between two potential starters, Arizona wishes they had one decent quarterback.
After benching Derek Anderson, rookie Max Hall got the call, but he looked terrible and then got injured and Anderson came back in.
It's not too early to say Ken Whisenhunt will be considering drafting a quarterback high in next year's draft.
The Patriots Can Win Even When Tom Brady Is Not Tom Brady
10 of 25
The Patriots certainly didn't have their best game on Sunday, especially with Tom Brady's 82.7 QB rating, throwing for only 159 yards and one touchdown.
But the Pats still won, and that's all that matters in the NFL.
Denver Has A Lot Of Problems
11 of 25
When a team gets beaten as badly as the Broncos did on Sunday 59-14, your team has problems.
The Broncos have no running game due to injuries, but trading Peyton Hillis to the Browns in the offseason now is looking more and more like a very short-sighted move.
The Broncos obviously couldn't stop the run as the Raiders compiled 328 rushing yards.
It's back to square one in Denver.
Jay Cutler May Not Survive The Season
12 of 25
Between the 19 sacks the last few weeks and the endless run of interceptions, Jay Cutler is not having a very good year.
The Bears pass protection is so bad, though, that Cutler's chances of getting through the rest of this season without an injury are pretty bad.
Aaron Rodgers Still Loses Out To Brett Favre
13 of 25
Even though the Packers won, and Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdowns, good luck reading anything about that outside of a Green Bay newspaper.
All national coverage focused on Favre, leaving Rodgers as an afterthought.
Roddy White Makes Fantasy Owners Happy
14 of 25
Roddy White had two touchdowns and 201 receiving yards against Cincinnati.
He made one-handed grabs, juggling catches and even a grab for a two-point conversion that doesn't show up on his stat line.
Yeah, it's safe to say White had a pretty good day.
The Ravens Defense Is Vulnerable
15 of 25
The Ravens defense, which traditionally has been considered one of the most fearsome in the league, surrendered 505 total yards and four touchdowns to one of the worst offenses in the league on Sunday.
A good play by Ray Lewis in overtime is the only reason the Ravens aren't answering tougher questions right now, and this is the same team that let the Browns' Peyton Hillis have a 100-yard game against them earlier in the season.
Kansas City Can Score
16 of 25
The Chiefs scored on both sides of the ball as Matt Cassel threw for two touchdowns, and the Kansas City defense took two Todd Bouman interceptions and converted those into points.
Both Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles had touchdowns on the ground to add to the pile of scores.
Drew Brees Can Be Confused
17 of 25
Drew Brees could not get any kind of read on the Browns defense, and threw four interceptions in Sunday's game, three of them in the first half.
The Browns refused to set their defense before the snap, thus not allowing Brees to make any kind of read. The plan worked, and the Saints were handed their worst loss of the season.
The Steelers Have A Good Relationship With The Referees
18 of 25
Stop me if you've heard this one before: There was a controversial call at the end of a game involving the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Steelers won the game because of it.
I know, I know, who would've thought that could ever happen, am I right Seattle Seahawks fans?
Twelve years after the Coin Toss incident, it seems league referees still feel they owe the Steelers a few calls here and there, and over there, and up there, and down there, and to the left, and to the right...you get the picture.
The Carolina Panthers Can Win A Game
19 of 25
In the NFL, a win is a win is a win, and the Panthers finally got one in the win column this week.
Head Coach John Fox may still be on the hot seat, but it's cooled down at least for the next week or so.
Josh Freeman Can Engineer A Fourth-Quarter Drive
20 of 25
Josh Freeman proved he could rally his team and win a game at the end of the fourth quarter this week.
A one-yard pass to Cadillac Williams sealed the victory, overcoming a day where Rams running back Steven Jackson ran for more than 100 yards and Sam Bradford threw for two touchdowns.
Performing under pressure is the difference between the teams that win and the teams that lose.
The Titans Have A Lot Of Offensive Weapons
21 of 25
Even with Vince Young injured, the Titans still have Kerry Collins, Chris Johnson and Kenny Britt.
How do you stop an offense that has three other options for every option you defend against?
The Titans look better every week and thoroughly beat a good Philadelphia team. This definitely is not the 2009 squad that struggled early.
The Seahawks Can And Will Use The Field Goal Against You
22 of 25
The Seahawks scored five times via the field goal on Sunday vs. Arizona, proving you don't really need to score a lot of touchdowns to win games.
Scoring touchdowns doesn't hurt, but this is the NFC West we're talking about.
The Chargers Defense Is Not As Good As The Offense
23 of 25
You want to see a team score a lot of points, look no farther than the San Diego Chargers. Phillip Rivers will get the ball to Antonio Gates and the Chargers will put points up on the board.
You want to see a defense that makes a head coach go crazy, try San Diego's. They're ranked first in two major defensive categories, overall yards allowed and passing yards, yet the Chargers record is 2-5.
The Chargers defense also is ranked third in rushing yards allowed.
Go figure that one out.
If You Win A Super Bowl, The Cleveland Browns Will Beat You
24 of 25
The Cleveland Browns may be 2-5, and haven't been to the playoffs since 2002, but if your team has won a Super Bowl in the last three years, then you have lost to the Browns the following year.
The Browns beat the Giants on Monday Night Football in 2008, the Pittsburgh Steelers in a frigid Thursday night game last year, and now the New Orleans Saints on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Brett Favre Still Throws Untimely Interceptions
25 of 25
As much as Packers fans used to love Brett Favre, they always tempered that love with the knowledge Favre was going to force throws and give the ball to the other team.
That worked in their favor last night as Favre threw three interceptions, one late in the game, and then wasn't able to connect with any receivers in his last drive.
Even at 41, Favre still hasn't learned that sometimes it's best to just eat the sack, or throw the ball away.
