Alexander Ovechkin Crashes In Fantasy NHL's Week 3 Slumping Players
Analysis of the past week’s coldest, slumping players in Fantasy NHL at each position.
One player per position who is failing to meet his preseason fantasy expectations by an overwhelmingly large margin.
No player is included or excluded based on name value, simply who is performing towards the bottom of his respective position.
Defenseman: Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings

Drew Doughty where have you gone?
He should be going to fantasy benches after suffering an injury Wednesday night and missing Thursday’s game.
However, even before then Doughty was unproductive this past week.
He was minus-one with doughnuts filling up nearly every category except his two penalty minutes. No goals, assists or shots on goal means it is time to remove Doughty from fantasy lineups until more information is released on the extent of his injury.
Goalie: Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks
2 of 5
In his past three starts, Luongo has not looked like the consensus top-five goalie he was drafted as. He failed to record a victory and two of his three total loses are in the past three games.
He had his best game on October 20 in an overtime loss where he only gave up one goal, snapping a three game losing streak.
Still, Luongo was averaging four goals against him with a terrible .841 save percentage.
Hopefully Wednesday’s solid performance is a sign that Luongo is ready to turn things around.
Center: Joe Thornton, San Jose Sharks
3 of 5
Although he opened the season hot, Thornton has disappeared in the past week.
He is minus-six with just two shots on goal, which came in Thursday's 4-2 win over Colorado
Thornton does have two assists, though, which is an encouraging sign that he has not all but disappeared.
Clearly fantasy owners need to keep one of the best centers in the game on one of the best teams in the league in their fantasy lineups, but be weary of his production for the upcoming week as he only has two assists, two goals and eight shots on goal in five games to open the season.
Right Wing: Marian Gaborik, New York Rangers
4 of 5
The biggest knock on Gaborik is his durability issues, which has reared its ugly head to open the season.
He was plus-one with two assists in the first two games of the season.
Gaborik unfortunately has not played in a week due to a separated shoulder. Reports came out last week that Gaborik is expected to miss two to four weeks with the injury. I would expect the Rangers to play it safe with their star player as they need him healthy for the rest of the season if they want to contend for a playoff spot.
Remove Gaborik from fantasy lineups immediately if you have yet to do so.
Left Wing: Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

Even Alexander the Great is allowed an off-week.
Still, it doesn’t mean I won’t exclude him from the cold list.
The surprisingly slow week saw Ovechkin tally just one assist and zero goals on 16 shots attempted.
He is minus-four this week and failed to record a point in the past two games after opening the seasons with at least one point in the first five games.
It is Alexander Ovechkin, after all, so there is not much to worry about here. Ovechkin will pick up the pace, as he is always a man on a mission.
