LSU Football: Which QB Should Be Under Center Against Auburn?

Regan GardnerOct 20, 2010

In a shocking development certain to astonish the college football world, LSU Head Coach Les Miles announced today that LSU's starting quarterback against the Auburn Tigers will be none other than.......(sigh) Jordan Jefferson.

However, all is not lost for members of Tiger Nation, who, like almost everyone who has watched an LSU game this year, question the QB choice.

We also won't re-state that Tiger fans continue to plead for QB Jarrett Lee, since that would epitomize the phrase, "beating a dead horse".

The upcoming game against #5 Auburn and #6 LSU has already been dissected more than a preserved frog in an 8th grade biology class. What we've discovered is that Auburn's defense is very good against the run and equally as bad against the pass.

However, that is a bit misleading, since opposing teams have not had much incentive to run the ball in the second half, as the Auburn offense usually erupts which forces teams to strictly pass.

The simple truth regarding the LSU QB situation is that Les Miles is making the right decision.

Allowing Jefferson to start the first offensive series, also allows Lee to examine the Auburn defense before entering the game.  Lee can see exactly what kind of schemes will be run, while Jefferson attempts to develop an early passing rhythm

More importantly than the first series though, is how the two-QB system will be implemented as the game progresses. Shockingly, Les Miles may have actually given an answer.

According to the twitter account for LSU Football:

On if Coach Miles would stay with one QB at Auburn: "If there’s a hot hand and it’s evident, absolutely. We’ll stay with that hot hand. "

Could it be that Les Miles might actually use the QB's according to their skill set?  Will Lee actually get the majority of the playing time if he is performing better?  Will Jordan Jefferson actually be brought in for his running abilities in the redzone and various "wildcat" type plays?

WILL LSU FANS FINALLY SEE THE END OF THE DREADED OPTION?

Tune in this Saturday, as no one knows truly knows what the "Mad Hatter" has concocted....
