Manchester United: Top 5 Replacements for Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney is the name all over the news again. This time for different reasons though. Few days ago, the star was caught in the limelight due to the threesome triangle of happily married life vs. the wild fun sex.
This time the rumors are that Wayne Rooney is about to leave Old Trafford. The reason as highlighted is the differences between the forward and the manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. And the differences seem to grow up so intense that Rooney is nearing an exit in the New Year itself. Rooney has been a shadow of his last year form and appears to have lost interest in the game. Or rather, the game wearing the Red Devils shirt.
The reasons behind the scenes may be other though, like selling off the most wanted player at a high price to help the club breathe in the piling debts. An act much similar like the Christiano Ronaldo case?
It is already rumors on air that Chelsea and Manchester City are up in a race to sign the white monster, and City is reported to prepare massive bod of 100m for the forward.
Whatever may be the case, Rooney needs to be replaced by a quality one, a proven forward or a gamble…
And here goes some fantastic choices.
Luis Alberto Suarez: Uber Uruguayan
1 of 5
The hungry Uruguayan just created a storm in the World Cup 2010. He is a gem of the Ajax academy and was already there in the hit list of Sir Alex.
However, the amount of 35m wanted by his club was a heavy thing to bear for United at that time. But the sale of Rooney can allow the flow of money and help to land the star.
Suarez is just at 23 and is a perfect poacher of the ball. He scored 35 goals in 33 games for Ajax last season and has opened this season with seven goals in seven games, now that's a real good one.
He is the hit man United may have been looking for to crack the level high. Dimitar Berbatov and Chicharito are both good scorers and thus the addition of the electrifying Suarez will boost up the title race of United. He is the best choice to go for by now.
Edin Dzeko: The Big Blast Bosnian
2 of 5
Edin Dzeko is the Bosnian international who currently plays for the German club Wolfsburg.
Dzeko has been a prolific strike force with his strong physical presence in front of the goal. He is a great natural scorer with shots blazing past the goal and is a perfect firepower for the English style of play.
Wolfsburg was open to accept offers for their star Dzeko, and the club demanded a price of 35m on him, which Sir Alex described as a "fairly inflated" one for the moment. But with the money from the Rooney trade, hope this will no longer be a problem for United.
The 23-year-ld international can be a real thing for Old Trafford. He has scored 22 goals in 34 for the Bundesliga last season and started this season with a five from five games. Holla boy; that's something we want at Trafford.
Karim Benzema Or Gonzalo Higuain: Real Deals?
3 of 5
Jose Mourinho has always expressed his strong desire for United star Wayne Rooney. He has even told that Rooney, for his brilliant talents, is one player that he would like to coach.
The summer 2010 transfer window even linked Karim Benzema and cash swap for Rooney. But that did not happen.
However, recently Mourinho has expressed that Real Madrid is already full of talents up front and where he can fit Rooney in a packed up squad? The in form Higuain or Christiano Ronaldo cannot be made to sit as benchwarmers.
Despite all these, Real's interest in Rooney seems to be real though. They can mostly offer the cash plus a player like Karim Benzema, who is in a struggling form in there, or the talented poached, Gonzalo Higuain to United.
I would love to see Higuain at United, but doubt much for the off form Benzema. Will the deal be a profitable one for United? What do you think?
Diego Forlan: Re-United?
4 of 5
Diego Forlan, another Uruguayan gem, was an unsuccessful one in Old Trafford earlier. He could not make up a good pair with the then United forward Ruud Van Nistelrooy and thus ended up being transferred to the Spanish League.
Dubbed as the " Diego Forlorn" for his drought of not scoring any goals for long patches, he made his resurgence in the Spanish league. From Villarreal to Atletico Madrid, he silenced the critics big time.
He was awarded the Golden Ball award for being the best player in the 2010 World Cup. So, from a flop hero to a deadly winner of matches, an amusing journey eh?
Forlan was always admired by Sir Alex, though the player could not settle himself earlier in the Red Devils shirt, but he has always been in good touch with the United manager. Sir Alex may go for this forward in the winter window, a re-united deal everyone will be awaiting for.
At 31, you may say, Forlan days are gone and he is only suited to Atletico, but what is not a gamble? Even the much talked about Super Mario completed his transfer and is counting his high waged injury days in Manchester City. All is a matter of fate; who says Forlan can be the lucky one?
Fernando Torres: Will The Fallen Angel Rise?
5 of 5
What to say about this man? He is a deadly venomous viper in the 6-yard box. Torres has been one of the best forwards in the world and a strong reason for Liverpool's success. However, things at Anfield also seem to be unhappy at the moment like Old Trafford.
The change in manager and the incoming Roy Hodgson as a dubious one has left Liverpool in a bottom table standards and it is no wonder that Torres wants life out of this misery. For long, he was linked with a move to a Spanish club, to his home.
However, if Rooney exits the Red Devils ground, then Torres might land up with a different red shirt this time.
Torres has always asked for a support striker with him at Anfield, but the new manager was busy decorating his flop defense and then when things are now pretty messed up for the Reds, Torres may soon find a way out. Sir Alex has always been a keen admirer of Torres and is ready to run the race to sign the 26-year-old Spanish hero.
But as he said, United will not be alone in the race for Torres, all the big clubs will try their efforts to lure the forward.
