NFL Trade Deadline: 5 Teams That Need To Make a Move
As the NFL trade deadline approaches, numerous teams are in need of an upgrade at some position on their football team. The necessities range from the offensive to defensive sides of the ball, even at the quarterback position.
Although many NFL teams are not inclined to make a lot of mid-season trades as they are in other sports, some teams need to pull the trigger to save their 2010 seasons.
So for now lets take a look at which teams need to make a moves and which positions they should be targeting.
5. Washington Redskins
1 of 5
Sitting at .500 right now, the Redskins are in a decent position with first place in their division still in striking distance. From here the Skins need to make an aggressive move to help their sluggish offense.
Despite acquiring future Hall of Famer Donovan McNabb in the offseason, the Skins' offense has yet to take off and although some of the emphasis is on McNabb to play better, he needs some more playmakers around him.
The Skins need to target a big possession receiver for McNabb to target on third downs, or a dynamic running back to take the place of the injured Clinton Portis.
If the Skins can acquire a running back he could eventually team with Portis once he gets back to give the team a dynamic running attack that could carry them to a division title.
4. Kansas City Chiefs

So far the Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the pleasant surprises of the 2010 season. Boasting a strong run game and an improving defense the Chiefs are in prime position to win the AFC West.
The one major deficiency on this team has been the lack of a consistent passing game. Matt Cassel has steadily improved but could still use another offensive weapon outside of receiver Dwayne Bowe.
The Chiefs need to seize this opportunity to make the playoffs and give Matt Cassel another weapon to play with on offense. This could give the Chiefs a more potent offense and maybe even a team that could advance in the playoffs.
3. Dallas Cowboys

It is not news that the Dallas Cowboys have been one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL this season. It may come as a surprise that this team is actually not eliminated from playoff contention.
The odds are against them but the Cowboys still have talent to make a run at the playoffs. However there are several upgrades the team could make to help launch them back into playoff contention.
One of their biggest needs is an improvement in their run D that has allowed over 100 yards per game. A run-stopping defensive lineman or linebacker would be a big help towards their playoff aspirations.
In addition the Cowboys could target an offensive lineman to help them better protect quarterback Tony Romo.
2. Tennessee Titans
4 of 5
The Tennessee Titans are having a bounce back year after a disappointing campaign last season, but find themselves in the toughest division in football.
Currently every team in the AFC South is above .500 and the Titans are looking up in the division. The team boasts a powerful defense and an explosive run game. They do however lack an explosive passing game.
Quarterback Vince Young has not always been overly accurate or efficient in the passing game. It is becoming clear that Young may need a stud wide receiver to give him some room for error. The Titans feature some solid wideouts but no real difference makers.
If the Titans could go out and get a big physical receiver for Young to rely on, they could catch up in their very difficult division.
1. Green Bay Packers
5 of 5
A team that was once considered a Super Bowl contender, now sits in the midst of mediocrity due to a series of crippling injuries. These injuries may derail the season if management does not act quickly.
Injuries on the defensive side of the ball have come at each level from the defensive line, to the linebackers and into the secondary. The Packers could certainly use some additional depth at any of those positions to help solidify a defense that has looked fearsome at times this year.
The real problems are on the offensive side of the ball. Firstly the Packers lost their first and second string Tight Ends in Jermichael Finley and Donald Lee. The tight end is a huge part of Mike McCarthy's offense and lacking those playmakers certainly hurts the team going forward.
Most importantly however the Packers need to find a replacement for injured running back Ryan Grant. If you can not run the ball during the winter months in Green Bay, you will be left without an effective offense.
This season can be salvaged, but only if the Packers act aggressively and repair their running game.
