Manchester United: Has The Ship Started Sinking?

aayush durehaOct 16, 2010

Evra scores an own goal and Van Der Sar spills the ball. Man Utd 2 - West Brom 2!!!

Was I surprised? Hell NO. Was the mannerism in which we conceded the two goals surprising? Haha, NO.

Two goals up in the first half and then concede two in the second. Man United fans are getting used to it. This current defense goes off to sleep in the second half and makes the whole team look bad at the end of the day.

You know that Sir Alex is not a happy person when you've drawn games against Fulham, Everton, Rangers, Bolton, Sunderland and West Brom. And that too, by mid-October. Surely, something is wrong.

I'm not going to lay down the blame on offense... They've consistently been scoring 2-3 goals a game. So, well done Nani, well done Berba and well done Chicharito. Fletcher, Gibson and Anderson need to up their game in order to keep their place in the starting line-up.

But the biggest disappointments for me have been Evra and Van Der Sar. I'm completely miffed by the level of mediocrity these two have displayed in the current campaign. A team like Man United deserves better players.

VDS has been awesome for four years but after all, he has hit 40 and hasn't been at a top level. The reason why he was successful in the past 4 seasons are, 1. He never made slip ups.. 2. Always communicated well with the back four.. 3. Made spectacular saves. All three have been missing this season. He has conceded two goals vs Fulham, Liverpool, Bolton and West Brom, and three vs Everton. Shocking!!!

And why isn't Fergie replacing Patrice "the attention deficit" Evra? Fabio is same size as him, can make same darting runs into the box as him and most importantly doesn't make stupid mistakes. Evra has been inconsistent in the past couple of seasons. Be it at a crucial game against Milan at Old Trafford or at Munich, where he let Olic score a goal in the injury time.

Quick Solution:

1. About time we got a new keeper. We have plenty of great options: 1. Stekelenberg 2. Neuer 3. De Gea 4. Shay Given.. I'd be surprised if we don't buy one in January.

2. An attacking Mid. Someone like Sneijder. Given Rooney's current form, no harm in playing him in that position. Or perhaps a 4-3-3 with him, Berba and Hernandez at top.

3.OWEN HARGREAVES: If he can produce plays at the same kind of level like he did in 2008, we may see a complete turn around. We'll not only have a composed central mid but also someone who can take free-kicks in the end zone.

SAF needs to bring in a couple of players in Jan to make things go our way in May '11. After all, we're still 3rd in the league.. are unbeaten ... and haven't yet seen contributions of resurgent Rooney and Hargreaves.

On a much brighter note for United fans, Chelsea dropped points against Villa.
