BCS Rankings: The 25 Most Important Remaining Games
We're almost near the halfway point of the college football season and we've already had plenty of great games to enjoy.
Now that the BCS rankings are due to be released on Sunday, everyone will be excited to check out how the teams will be ranked.
While we wait, we can figure out which matches starting this weekend, through the end of the season would be the most important to watch.
Here are 25 most important games that you should look forward to.
October 16: Ohio State @ Wisconsin
1 of 25
How long can Ohio State stay at the top of the polls?
Their reign as number one may only last for one week.
The Badgers can spoil the Buckeyes' perfect record by giving them a loss on Saturday.
Last year, when these two teams played each other, the Badgers were badly beaten 31-13.
Wisconsin will want payback for that embarassing loss and this time they'll be playing in front of their own home crowd.
With both teams also gunning for a Big Ten title, there's plenty at stake in this matchup.
October 16: Arkansas @ Auburn
2 of 25
The Auburn Tigers have a spotless record this year at 6-0 but their three SEC wins didn't come easy.
They've played close in-conference games against Mississippi State, South Carolina and Kentucky.
With the Razorbacks coming in for a visit, they offer Auburn a true test.
Arkansas played a very good game against former no. 1 Alabama and should be worthy opponents for the Tigers.
November 20: Ohio State @ Iowa
3 of 25
After Wisconsin, the next big game for Ohio State will be against the Hawkeyes.
Iowa lost this matchup last season 27-24, in a well fought overtime game.
With home field advantage this time around, they are surely looking forward to take down the Buckeyes.
Just like the Wisconsin game, this game will also have heavy Big Ten title implications.
October 23: Air Force @ TCU
4 of 25
Now that TCU has rolled out two straight shutouts, they're definitely trying to gain notice and perhaps even convince voters to give them a higher seeding in the polls.
With the Air Force Falcons leading the country in rushing yards, there is now a third top-ranked team in the national rankings out of the Mountain West.
For the Horned Frogs, defeating the Falcons will certainly help their bid for a national title.
For the Falcons, they could take down a Mountain West powerhouse and establish themselves as a new non-BCS threat.
October 23: Nebraska @ Oklahoma State
5 of 25
It will be interesting to see two of the country's top offenses face one another in this Big 12 battle.
The emergence of Taylor Martinez' two-way game has bolstered the 'Huskers' running attack.
While the Cowboys have a terrific passing quarterback in Brandon Weeden.
Will the Cornhuskers top-ranked defense be able to slow down Weeden and company?
October 23: Oklahoma @ Missouri
6 of 25
For the Tigers, this will be the first of two consecutive tough matches against a pair of Big 12 title favorites—Oklahoma and Nebraska.
With Oklahoma playing in very close games all season, the Tigers may have a good shot at upsetting the top-ranked Sooners at home.
October 23: LSU @ Auburn
7 of 25
With LSU and Auburn on a 6-0 start to start their season, there's a big chance that these two teams will face each other still undefeated.
The winner of this match gets a big win that will help them in the SEC West standings.
For Auburn, they will be more looking forward to bouncing back from losing to LSU the last three seasons.
October 23: Wisconsin @ Iowa
8 of 25
A road game in Iowa is the second of two straight difficult games for the Badgers.
After facing the Ohio State Buckeyes, they'll need to stay on top of their game versus the Hawkeyes.
If these two teams want a shot at a Big Ten title, then this is a must-win game.
Iowa has won the last two matches against Wisconsin.
October 30: Missouri @ Nebraska
9 of 25
After the Cowboys, the Cornhuskers will have to face the Missouri Tigers.
The Tigers will have to deal with Nebraska a week after facing Oklahoma.
After their promising 6-0 start this season, Missouri has become darkhorse Big 12 title contenders.
But their biggest test will come during those back-to-back games and the country will find out if they are really contenders or pretenders.
October 30: Utah @ Air Force
10 of 25
After opening the college season playing against a top-ranked Pittsburgh Pitt football team, the Utes have been short of quality opponents.
This game against Air Force will finally pit them against a ranked opponent. A win here can only help them solidify themselves as a top-10 team in the rankings.
While the Air Force have a chance to upset a Mountain West power, and perhaps give them a small chance at stealing away the MWC title.
October 30: Michigan State @ Iowa
11 of 25
The Spartans have already taken down top-ranked Wisconsin.
The next logical step in their hopes for a Big Ten title, will have to be a takedown of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Although Iowa has the home field advantage, Michigan State has already proven that they can play well on the road.
Just last weekend, they were able to slow down Heisman candidate Denard Robinson and the Michigan Wolverines.
November 6: TCU @ Utah
12 of 25
These two Mountain West rivals will likely go head-to-head in this matchup with perfect records.
At stake is a chance for TCU to bolster their national title game chances.
While the Utes are also Mountain West title threats and will make this a very tough game for the Horned Frogs.
Outside of a game against Air Force for both of these teams, there's been limited opportunities to take down quality opponents and showcase their skills and talents.
November 6: Arkansas @ South Carolina
13 of 25
At home, the Gamecocks were able to dispose of former-number one Alabama.
Now with the Hogs coming for a visit, they may be able to do the same thing and pull off another win at home.
Arkansas already battled Alabama closely earlier this season, so they should be formidable opponents for South Carolina.
November 6: Alabama @ LSU
14 of 25
Who would have guessed that after six weeks into the season, that LSU would still be undefeated and Alabama would go down against South Carolina?
The Tigers have been fortunate to run off four SEC wins this year but they haven't been winning in a very impressive fashion.
Regardless, this matchup should be of interest, when two of the country's last three national champions go head-to-head.
November 6: Arizona @ Stanford
15 of 25
After the Oregon Ducks, these two teams are the next biggest threats out of the Pac-10.
But after last weekend, the Oregon State Beavers—who defeated the Arizona Wildcats 29-27—may just be darkhorse Pac-10 title contenders.
In case the Ducks do run into some Pac-10 losses later in the season, this game between Arizona and Stanford becomes very important.
November 13: South Carolina @ Florida
16 of 25
It would be curious to see how well a South Carolina team that defeated Alabama 35-21 plays against the Florida Gators.
The same Florida Gators that were trounced by the Crimson Tide, 31-6, and fell to LSU at the Swamp.
It may be a chance for the Gators to bounce back against a top-ranked opponent, and the Gamecocks will get the opportunity to defeat another quality SEC team.
November 26: Boise State @ Nevada
17 of 25
Looking ahead at Boise State's schedule, this the only game left that could prove problematic.
The Nevada Wolf Pack currently sit ranked no. 19 on the AP poll, chances are these two times will meet each other with perfect records.
For the Broncos, defeating the Wolf Pack can provide them a much needed win against another top-ranked team in order to solidify their shot at a possible spot in the national title game.
While the Wolf Pack have a chance to end years of Boise State domination in the WAC, ruin their rivals' title chances and consequently earn their program respect all around the nation.
November 26: Arizona @ Oregon
18 of 25
Arizona took their first loss this season against the Oregon State Beavers last weekend.
With the Oregon Ducks as the favorites to win the Pac-10 title this year, this late season game could have national title and Pac-10 title implications.
The Wildcats will visit Oregon and look to avenge last season's 44-41 double overtime loss.
November 26: Auburn @ Alabama
19 of 25
This big rivalry game is almost always a must-watch for football fans.
With these two teams likely to be among the top-25 in the nation when they play each other, it will most certainly be another very good one.
Now that Alabama has taken a loss against the South Carolina Gamecocks, Auburn finds themselves one of only two unbeaten SEC teams.
November 26: West Virginia @ Pittsburgh
20 of 25
Although the Panthers have dropped out of the top-25 after starting the year among the nation's best, this should still be an exciting game to watch.
After all, this the Big East's oldest and most bitter rivalries.
Despite the fact that the Mountaineers will probably be the only ranked team in the Big East, the Backyard Brawl should still have plenty of highlights.
Could this game decide the Big East title winner?
November 27: LSU @ Arkansas
21 of 25
This is the last regular season game for both Arkansas and LSU.
Therefore, it could potentially have an impact on who comes out on top of the SEC West.
LSU still has to play at Auburn and host Alabama this season and Arkansas has road games against Auburn and South Carolina.
November 27: Oregon State @ Stanford
22 of 25
The Beavers showed the nation last week that despite taking two early losses to TCU and Boise State earlier in season, they are still a very good football team.
As a result, this November showdown with Stanford should be a very interesting game.
For the Caridinal, this is the last game on their regular schedule will definitely need to win, to maintain a small shot at a Pac-10 title.
November 27: Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State
23 of 25
If both of these teams have identical Big 12 records when they meet, the winner of this game will earn a spot in the Big 12 championship game.
For the Cowboys, a possible upset could go in their favor considering they'll be playing at home.
November 27: Florida @ Florida State
24 of 25
Here's another big in-state rivalry game.
The Seminoles already showed that they can play tough on the road by decisively defeating ACC rival the Miami Hurricanes, 45-17.
A win here for the Seminoles may solidify their spot as the best college team in Florida. While the Gators—based on how they've looked so far this season—will need to play well in order to just stay among the top-25 teams in the nation.
December 4: Oregon @ Oregon State
25 of 25
The Beavers started off Pac-10 play with two straight wins and in their last game defeated top-ranked Arizona.
Although they have two losses this season, they fell to two Top-5 teams in Boise State and TCU.
For the Beavers, they could possibly play spoiler to the Ducks' national title game hopes.
Or perhaps, this game could impact which member of the Pac-10 could play in Rose Bowl.
As expected, these two in-state rivals will have plenty to play for near the end of the season.
