Alabama Recruiting Wish List: Latest on Jadeveon Clowney, Alabama's Top Targets

Michael PintoOct 14, 2010

Alabama was cruising through the 2010 season up until it's loss to South Carolina on Oct. 9.

Before the game, the Crimson Tide were favored to run the tables in the SEC and rack in another stellar recruiting class.

Alabama already has a ton of top-rated talent on the books, but many of the top uncommitted prospects in the nation are still looking at the Tide.

Several big names, such as Jadeveon Clowney, Isaiah Crowell, Tim Jernigan, Cyrus Kouandjio, Jay Rome, Brandon Shell, Jermariua Rasco and Nick O'Leary, name Alabama among their top choices.

Alabama can't land them all, but it was in pretty good shape before the loss to South Carolina.

So did anything change with the loss? Here's the latest on all of the Crimson Tide's top targets.

10. Brandon Shell, OT

1 of 10

Five-star offensive tackle Brandon Shell, ranked No. 6 at his position on Scout and No. 10 on Rivals, named Alabama among his four finalists in September.

"South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Clemson. It's all between those four schools."

While Shell said that he intended to take official visits to all four of his finalists, he hasn't scheduled anything yet, and will probably hold off until National Signing Day to announce his commitment.

9. Nick O'Leary, TE

2 of 10

Nick O'Leary is right up there with Jay Rome as one of the nation's top tight ends.

While Miami and FSU have long been considered the Florida native's leaders, we're far from a final two.

He lists FSU, Miami, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and North Carolina as his favorites, but his first three official visits aren't to the in-state favorites.

O'Leary was at the Alabama-Florida game in Tuscaloosa, will be there this weekend when Wisconsin plays Ohio State and then heads to Baton Rouge for the LSU-Alabama game.

8. Jermauria Rasco, DE

3 of 10

Jermauria Rasco had planned on cutting his list down to five finalists before the season started, but there's no word on that front yet, and we're halfway through the year.

The schools recruiting him the hardest are Texas, LSU, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, and UCLA.

Texas would really like to add him as it's final piece to a stellar recruiting class, but both LSU and Alabama are right there at the top of his list as well.

7. Jay Rome, TE

4 of 10

Jay Rome is the top tight end in the nation.

While he'll list five finalists, this one is really a two-horse race.

Though Clemson and Florida are in the mix, it looks like it's going to come down to Georgia and Alabama at the end of the day, and there might not be a recruit in the country the Crimson Tide have more interest in.

Rome doesn't have any official visits set yet, though, and will probably drag this out for awhile.

6. Curtis Grant, LB

5 of 10

Grant has nearly 30 offers on the table, most notably from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State, Tennessee and Virginia.

He won't list any favorites yet, but of the group, Florida, Alabama, USC and Virginia stand out the most, based on recent interviews and sources.

Grant has made it clear that the most important aspect of his recruitment isn't the school, "it's the people." He might be a reach for Alabama, as the Virginia native is believed to be leaning towards staying at home.

5. Tim Jernigan, DT

6 of 10

Tim Jernigan is the top defensive tackle in the class, and a prospect that's drawn considerable interest from all over the country, but his focus is on high school, not college.

His favorites are Florida, Florida State, LSU, Alabama and Michigan, but Jernigan is "in no rush" to make a decision.

At the moment, Jernigan has no official visits planned, but Florida appears to be the school to beat.

4. Isaiah Crowell, RB

7 of 10

Isaiah Crowell has had his eyes on Alabama and Georgia for awhile now, and it was recently reported that he's heavily leaning toward the Crimson Tide.

That was before Alabama lost to South Carolina, though, so maybe things have changed again, He had previously given Georgia the advantage.

Crowell has a close relationship with Alabama running back Trent Richadson. Even with the loss, it still appears Alabama will get its man at the end of this hunt.

3. Tony Steward, LB

8 of 10

Tony Steward isn't just one of the top linebackers in the 2011 class.

He's a physical specimen who has the look of a college player going pro more than a high school senior.

His top two choices are FSU and Clemson, with most experts pointing toward those two schools as the real contenders. But Alabama, Florida, UCLA and Rutgers are still in the mix.

He'll be making his official visits to FSU and Clemson in January, but before then will stop by UCLA in November. Steward is still trying to schedule something with Alabama and Rutgers, but Crimson Tide fans shouldn't hold their breath.

2. Cyrus Koundjio, OT

9 of 10

Cyrus Kouandjio, the top offensive tackle in the 2011 class, isn't rushing into his decision to pick a school, but recently cut his list down to 11 top choices: Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pitt, Tennessee, Virginia and USC.

USC is recruiting him the hardest, but his older brother plays for Alabama, and the latest word has the Crimson Tide on top in this one.

As for official visits, nothing is scheduled yet. But he plans on taking some throughout the fall.

1. Jadeveon Clowney, DE

10 of 10

Jadeveon Clowney is the top prospect in the nation, and the South Carolina native won't officially say it, but his recruitment has been down to Alabama and South Carolina for months.

He was at the Alabama-South Carolina game last weekend, and it looks like the Gamecocks got more than just a victory over the Crimson Tide.

After the game Clowney, a native of South Carolina, admitted that he was already leaning toward SC, but now favors it even more based on the huge win.
