Fantasy Football Start or Sit for NFL Week 6

Ryan LesterOct 14, 2010

Here’s some sit and start advice as you set your lineups for Week Six of the NFL season.

 Quarterbacks

Start:

TOP NEWS

Colts Jaguars Football
Rams Seahawks Football
Mississippi Football

Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears

He is back from his concussion. Mike Martz has to be chomping at the bit to prove his offensive prowess after last week’s passing display by Todd Collins that had Bears fans reminiscing of the good old days with Cade McNown. Seattle ranks 31st in the league with 302 passing yards allowed per game. They appear to be the perfect remedy.

Sit:

Shaun Hill, Detroit Lions

Matthew Stafford is out and Hill is coming off a pair of games that saw him pass for 331 yards and 2 TDs against the Packers and 3 TDs against the Rams. He’s facing the Giants this week though, who concussed Jay Cutler with a flurry of sacks. They also rank first with just 146 passing yards per game.

Running Backs

Start:

Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs

Houston has been tough against the run, in part because they have been so bad against the pass. Thomas Jones had been getting more carries than Charles, but that changed last week when Jamaal had 16 carries to TJ’s eight. Jones went for 19 yards while Charles went for 87. Look for another heavy dose of Charles this week as they try to slow Houston’s potent offense.

Ryan Torain, Washington Redskins

Torain underwhelmed last week going for 40 yards on 14 carries against Green Bay. He did add 27 yards on four catches. He takes on the Colts at home, who are allowing 142.2 yards per game on the ground at a 4.8 ypc clip.

Sit:

BenJarvus Green-Ellis, New England Patriots

The Law Firm has played well, replacing Fred Taylor in the starting lineup, but has the daunting task of trying to pick up yards on the ground against Baltimore’s stout defense.

Knowshon Moreno, Denver Broncos

His availability is in question. Even if he is cleared to play, he’s facing the Jets who have allowed just one rushing TD on the season. They are giving up just 79 yards per game on the ground and 3.3 yards per carry.

Wide Receivers

Start:

Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs

Bowe has been one of the season’s biggest disappointments, averaging just 38 yards per game. He faces Houston’s league worst pass defense so the time is clearly now for Bowe to shine.

Johnny Knox, Chicago Bears

Knox isn’t having the impact many NFL pundits expected him to, but he’s been the Bears best WR. He’s been stifled the past two weeks because of the Giants’ suffocating defense and the aforementioned struggles Collins had at QB last week. Look for him to post something closer to the 77.3 yards he averaged in the first three weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if he scored his first TD of the season as well.

Sit
:

Brandon Tate & Deion Branch, New England Patriots

Just because Randy Moss is gone, don’t expect this duo to instantly put up fantasy starter numbers, especially against a Baltimore defense giving up just 157 passing yards per game.

Braylon Edwards, New York Jets

He simply drops the ball too often. The Jets have a strong running game and Dustin Keller, Jericho Cotchery, and Santonio Holmes all have gotten their starts and another week of practice time, so Edwards' chances will be limited.

Tight Ends

Start:

Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers

He’s baaaaaack. No, Heath Miller didn’t go anywhere, but you’d have to be living under a rock if you didn’t know Big Ben is making his return this week. With a QB that can actually make all of the throws, Miller becomes a fantasy option once again. Having Cleveland, who he caught ten passes for 139 yards and a score against last year, as his opponent certainly helps.

Sit:

Visanthe Shiancoe, Minnesota Vikings

Randy Moss’ arrival opens things up for Percy Harvin, who has been referenced as a faster Wes Welker this week. Favre will continue to work with Moss to get on the same page. The only reliable option in the first three games became almost an afterthought.

Kicker

Start:

Josh Scobee, Jacksonville Jaguars

Scobee has ten FGs on the year, nine of them from 40+ yards, which warms the hearts of fantasy owners. He faces Tennessee, who has allowed a league high 13 FGs. Sounds like a good recipe.

Sit:

Jason Hanson, Detroit Lions

Hanson has nine FGs on the year, but Calvin Johnson is ailing, and with the Giants looking like they’ve channeled the talents of Lawrence Taylor on defense in the past couple of weeks, scoring could be hard to come by.

Defense

Start:

Miami Dolphins

I'm assuming Aaron Rodgers will be held out because of the concussion he suffered last week. Jermichael Finley is also out, and the Pack haven’t figured out their RB situation since Ryan Grant went down. All the injuries should make life easier for the Dolphins' defense.

Sit:

Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta leads the league with 10 INTs and is tied for ninth with 11 sacks. They are second with just 14 points allowed per game. Unfortunately they take on the Eagles this week, which makes it tough to play them, especially if Michael Vick is in the lineup.
