College Football Rankings: Nebraska Cornhuskers Climbing Their Way Up

Andrew RobesonOct 11, 2010

When many of college football's major polls put the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the preseason top 10, people around the nation thought the 'Huskers were overrated.

Well, not anymore.

The Huskers opened Big 12 play with a 48-13 romp over the previously undefeated Kansas State Wildcats.

For those who think it's "just Kansas State," keep in mind that they opened the season with a victory over a UCLA team that has defeated two teams that were ranked at the time they played.

The Huskers went into the match-up ranked sixth in the coaches poll, but their performance Thursday night vaulted them past TCU, who beat Wyoming this week.

The Huskers also passed former No. 1 Alabama who was upset in South Carolina to land them at No. 4 this week behind Ohio State, Oregon, and Boise State.

In the Harris poll's debut the Huskers were ranked fifth, the only difference being that they were behind TCU.

A strong victory against unranked Texas could possibly propel the 'Skers past Boise State and TCU in both polls.

Next Sunday the BCS will unveil its first rankings of the year, which uses both the Harris and coaches' poll, as well as computer rankings, to determine its rankings.

Here are the match-ups next week for the teams ahead of Nebraska in either poll.

1. Ohio State @ Wisconsin

2. @Oregon v. UCLA

3. Boise State @ San Jose State

4. @TCU v. BYU
