Tom Brady-Randy Moss Feud: Everything You Need To Know

Tom KinslowOct 11, 2010

With the report from CBS's Charlie Casserly that there was a locker room altercation between Tom Brady and Randy Moss that devolved into insults about each other's appearance, it's time we break this down.

Inside you'll find the report of what happened, responses from people involved with the situation, what people are speculating about the reported feud, and what else led up to Randy Moss's departure from New England back to Minnesota.

Any thoughts? Leave them in the comments.

Locker Room Argument

According to Charlie Casserly of CBS Sports, Tom Brady wasn't happy with Randy Moss's behavior as of late, and the two got into a heated argument.

It's not a shock that this type of thing happened, considering Moss had been making waves about his contract situation since before the season started and Brady was being the consummate professional about it, saying the right things and getting his deal done.

During the argument, Brady decided to go school yard with his comments at Moss and told the wideout to shave his beard.

To be fair, it's a pretty bad beard and looks like it's taking over his entire face in splotches, but if you want to be critical of a guy like Moss, there's plenty of things you can say to him that are more valid criticism than "shave your beard."

Michigan men never were the best trash talkers.

Moss Fires Back

After Brady took a shot at Moss's appearance, Randy decided to go for the feature that has been the biggest topic of discussion, Brady's hair.

Moss told Brady to cut his hair and that he looked like a girl, which really just ended the argument right there. There's no coming back from that and if I were in the locker room, I'd probably have died laughing and ended up shipped out of town with Moss.

Peter King Says Report Is False

Peter King went to the air on NBC last night and said that he heard from sources that the reported spat between the two never happened and that someone was lying to CBS about there ever being such an argument.

Charlie Casserly and Bill Belichick have a history with each other, with Belichick taking exception to a report that Tom Brady played with injured ribs last year. The head coach ripped Casserly, saying he was always wrong, comparing him to a meteorologist.

Ouch.

Confidant of Moss Denies Report

The Boston Herald spoke to a confidant of Randy Moss who categorically denied the report of a dispute with his former quarterback.

The source told the Herald that the report was totally false and that Moss has too much respect for Tom Brady as a player and a human being, and that he doesn't have time to engage in "kids' games."

Moss's history would suggest otherwise though.

Bill Belichick Denies Report

When asked about the report in a conference call with reporters, coach Bill Belichick, who isn't exactly the most open coach in the league, said that the report was news to him.

There's not normally much you can take out of a Bill Belichick sound bite, but a denial is a denial. Then again, this is coming from the mastermind behind SpyGate.

Brady and Moss could have had a boxing match in the locker room and it would be news to him.

Meriweather Denies Report

During a scheduled radio appearance, Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather was asked about the rumor and he said that he didn't see any argument between the two players and that he hadn't heard of such an incident either.

Meriweather went on to praise Moss as a great teammate not only to him but a bunch of the other Patriots players as well. If there really was an incident and the Patriots were circling the wagons in unity after his departure, it'd be a little odd for Meriweather to praise him like this in a public forum.

Columnists Speculate

Jeff Howe of NESN.com speculated that if Randy Moss was going to be traded, that Tom Brady had to know of the plans to move him prior to the completion of the deal.

Howe went on to say that if that were true, that's about as damning of a statement on Moss as there can be.

I can't say I disagree with him, but Brady is a team-first guy, and if Bill Belichick said it was for the best of the team, you'd think he'd go along with it, especially if there were issues we didn't know about.

Fight With Quarterbacks Coach?

On top of all of this, there was a report that last Monday night, Moss got into a dispute with New England's quarterbacks coach, Bill O'Brien.

Moss was only targeted once in the first half, and during halftime, Moss and O'Brien evidently had words with each other. Moss ended up going without a catch in that game and was shortly traded after the game.

It's not a shock that Moss got traded with all of these rumors swirling. The Patriots don't play around with these types of things.

Brady Stays Silent

As of now, Tom Brady has not spoken about the report or the trade that shipped the best wideout he's ever had and will probably ever have to throw to out of town.

It's a little fishy, considering his former praise of Moss, that he'd be so quiet about the trade—especially after signing an extension—seeing as how it hurts the offense.

I feel like something happened, but we'll never find out one way or another.
