BCS Rankings 2010: Which Team Deserves To Be No. 1?

Brandon GalvinOct 11, 2010

Which team deserves to be No. 1 in the BCS Rankings after Week 6?

With Nick Sabana's Alabama Crimson Tide 19 game-win streak falling to Steve Spurrier's South Carolina Gamecocks, the BCS Rankings have been thrown for a bit of a loop for the first time this season.

The other top five teams were once again dominant and are grinning as they move up the ranks.

Which teams deserve to be in the top five now?

How far does Alabama drop with its loss?

Which team sits atop the BCS Rankings as the clear cut No. 1 team in the Nation?

Here are my top five.

5. Alabama Crimson Tide

Despite a rather surprising loss to No. 19 South Carolina and Oklahoma holding its own to open the season, I still have to consider Alabama a top-five team.

Although they lost, I would probably take Alabama to beat any team ranked ahead of them except for Ohio State.

Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson is a lethal combination at the running back position.

The team had previously won 19 straight games, including the Nation Championship, and looked like they had a great opportunity to win it all again.

Of course, many will have Alabama ranked lower due to the loss.

Looking at every team, however, I still feel the need to put Alabama in the top five.

4. TCU Horned Frogs

TCU turned in another fantastic performance in Week 6.

TCU completed its second straight shutout in a 45-0 victory over Wyoming.

Quarterback Andy Dalton turned in a big game, completing 82.4 percent of his passes. He was 14 for 17 with 270 yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Ed Wesley has been the most productive player for TCU, rushing for 612 yards and seven touchdowns through six games.

TCU currently averages over 41 points per game while giving up just over 10 points a game. Although they haven’t had a rough schedule, they have been too dominant not to be in the top four.

3. Oregon Ducks

Although the Ducks have been extremely impressive, I still can’t put them No. 2 just yet.

The Ducks have been absolutely explosive, averaging an unbelievable 54 points per game.

The defense does have one shutout under its belt, but have fallen off in the past three games.

The defense doesn’t concern me as I’m sure it does others.

The combination of quarterback Darron Thomas (1,213 yards, 14 touchdowns, five interceptions) and LaMichael James (848 yards, 10 total touchdowns) appears too much for other defenses to stop.

Still, I can’t bump them ahead of my top two teams just yet as I trust them more.

2. Boise State Broncos

I don’t like faulting a team for its schedule.

Boise State does everything it needs to do to be ranked high but very few give them the respect because of who they play.

Although they have played two ranked teams thus far, those looking ahead at the schedule will see just one more ranked team and an easy schedule.

They have completed one shutout and have scored over 50 points in half of their games.

Quarterback Kellen Moore has been excellent. He has thrown for 1,339 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just one interception.

The Broncos should go undefeated and based on their performances to date, are my No. 2 team.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes

The true No. 1 team in the Nation.

Ohio State has been simply dominant this season.

Terrelle Pryor as of late has been everything he was billed to be. Pryor currently has a 170.5 QB Rating and is completing 68.0 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 1,349 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. Pryor has rushed for 354 yards and three touchdowns as well.

He is currently making a case to be Heisman candidate.

With this offensive juggernaut, Ohio State has cruised past its previous opponents. They look as unstoppable as any other team in the Nation.

After breathing down Alabama’s neck for the entire season, they rightfully move up to No. 1 this week.
