Cowboys Struggle: Has Time Run Out On Wade Phillips As Head Coach of Dallas?

Old AccountOct 11, 2010

The Dallas Cowboys endured yet another disappointing end in the 2010 season, losing 34-27 to the Tennessee Titans.

An excessive celebration led to a 73 yard return by Tennessee, who once again took a lead in the game and never gave up the lead again.

Questions will begin to rise about the control Wade Phillips has over his team; more importantly, has his time run out as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys?

Dallas is 1-3, 0-1 in the division, and not looking anything like a playoff team.

Sure, it is early in the season, but it may be in the best interest of the team to move on without Wade Phillips.

Despite the early struggles on offense, Tony Romo had enough left in him to drive the Cowboys multiple times down the field; the reason for the loss lays in the hands of the defense. Once thought of a top ten defense within the league, Wade Phillip's unit could not stop the big play threat of the Titans, either from the run or the pass.

Being that the defense is Wade's specialty, this could raise even more concern not only from the locker room or the fan base, but owner Jerry Jones has to be prepared to make a move.

As one analyst mentioned yesterday, Jones could have a miserable time at his Super Bowl party this year if the Cowboys aren't in it, and for the sake of the season, it is time to make a change in big D.

The upcoming schedule for the Cowboys: at the Vikings, home to the Giants, home to the Jaguars, at Green Bay. This is the stretch run for the Cowboys, who will either make or break their season within these next four games.

With all of these teams looking to be within the playoff mix for awhile, winning their next four games is the best chance they have of staying in the playoff race this season.

If not now, when? With head coaches Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden staying off the football field right now, Jerry Jones isn't going to pass up on one of the many marquee head coaches that are expected to be available this winter.

There are questions on both sides of the ball, and if Wade Phillips can't find a way to turn his team around fast, it will only be a matter of time until there is a new man running the Dallas Cowboys in 2010.
