NFL Week 5 Scores: Complete Roundup of the Day's Action
Week 5 in the NFL featured another big upset, another close game involving the Falcons, and injuries.
While a few games ended as expected, the New Orleans Saints luck in close games with teams that aren't supposed to win appears to have run out.
The last undefeated team is no more, but the victor in that contest wasn't exactly dominant.
It's another week of football, and it's time to look back on just what went down in the NFL in Week 5.
Atlanta Falcons 20 Cleveland Browns 10
1 of 12
Kroy Bierman tipped a pass and then caught it, running it back for a touchdown as a hobbled Jake Delhomme could only look on.
The Browns kept the game close, but injuries to all their major offensive components, including Seneca Wallace and Peyton Hillis, doomed the team to another loss.
The Falcons once again pulled out a victory despite errors on special teams, but at the end of the day, Atlanta is 4-1.
Colts 19 Chiefs 9
2 of 12
There was nothing pretty about this victory for Indianapolis, as Peyton Manning had no touchdowns and only 244 yards passing.
For Manning to have less than 300 yards passing in a game is almost unheard of anymore.
The Chiefs didn't fare much better. and the results speak for themselves.
This wasn't a pretty game, unless you're into Adam Vinatieri field goals.
Jacksonville 36 Buffalo 26
3 of 12
This game turned into a high-scoring affair as the Jags came alive in the second half to keep the Bills from notching their first victory of the 2010 campaign.
Despite David Garrard turning the ball over twice, he threw for three touchdowns and kept the Jaguars offense moving.
The Bills are 0-5, and there's not a lot of hope for the rest of the schedule. Not a good year to be a Buffalo Bills fan.
Baltimore Raven 34 Denver Broncos 17
4 of 12
Joe Flacco and the Ravens offense just steamrolled all over the Broncos.
Kyle Orton had another good game, 314 yards and two touchdowns, but with no running game to fall back on, it just wasn't enough.
The Ravens quickly are becoming one of the better teams in the NFL.
Tennessee Titans 34 Dallas Cowboys 27
5 of 12
Tony Romo threw for more than 400 yards but had three interceptions, one of which sealed the Cowboys' defeat on Sunday.
The Titans are a good team that hasn't found a way to blow their opponents out of the water yet, but the Cowboys are becoming a team that finds new ways to lose every week.
It's shaping up to be a long year for Cowboys fans.
Titan's fans, though, saw a good game out of Vince Young this season, and they're hoping his two-touchdown, zero interception game is a sign of things to come.
Washington Redskins 16 Green Bay Packers 13
6 of 12
The Green Bay Packers are another team team that should have a lot more wins but now seem to be finding more ways to lose.
The Redskins are a better team than the 49ers, but the Packers have not played well, and now half the team seems to be on the injured list, including a report after the game that Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion.
The Redskins are prospering under Mike Shanahan and may show everyone their slow start this year was exactly that, a slow start.
St. Louis Rams 6 Detroit Lions 44
7 of 12
Mark Clayton went down with a knee injury in the first quarter, and without a good wide receiver to throw to, rookie quarterback Sam Bradford was rendered largely ineffective.
Shaun Hill, though, is making Lions fans not sweat out the return of Matthew Stafford as he has looked good for a backup and looked great on Sunday, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns.
Chicago Bears 23 Carolina Panthers 6
8 of 12
Well, if it wasn't official before, it's official now, the Carolina Panthers are a really bad team.
Behind backup quarterback Todd Collins, the Bears beat the Panthers and kept them out of the end zone.
Rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen had a pick and no touchdowns in a day that only saw him throw for 61 yards.
Not that Collins was great, throwing for only 32 yards and four interceptions.
Does this even qualify as an NFL game?
Bears fans are happy it's a "W," but they can't be happy about how the team looked doing it.
Tampa Bay 24 Cincinnati 21
9 of 12
Josh Freeman was everything he needed to be in a close victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Freeman set up the winning kick by connecting with receiver Michael Spurlock at the 13-yard line.
Carson Palmer threw a very bad interception as he continues to try and force the ball into places the Bengals coaching staff would rather he not force it to.
The Bengals had a great 2009, but their chances of repeating as division champions in 2010 continue to diminish while the Buccaneers are looking more and more like a team on the rise.
Good teams find ways to win close games.
New York Giants 34 Houston Texans 10
10 of 12
Eli Manning looked like Eli Manning, and the Texans had no running game.
Manning threw for three touchdowns and two picks while the Texans gained a whole 24 yards rushing.
The Texans were bound to have a game like this; these things just happen.
Also, Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin was bound to figure out how to fix all the mistakes the Giants were making the first few weeks of the season.
The Giants defense once again made a huge difference, though, so they can't be forgotten when looking at what went right for New York.
New Orleans 20 Arizona Cardinals 30
11 of 12
Do you think Derek Anderson is developing psychological problems from constantly being benched?
Does Ken Whisenhunt care?
The New Orleans Saints care because Max Hall, while not overwhelming, looked good and didn't make too many mistakes as he helped lead his team to victory in his first career start.
The Saints, meanwhile, have to go back to the drawing board and figure out everything that went wrong.
Where do you begin?
San Diego Chargers 27 Oakland Raiders 35
12 of 12
What's the bigger story this week, the Chargers losing, or the Raiders winning?
Honestly.
The Chargers are a pretty good football team this year, despite the tough loss to the Seattle Seahawks a few weeks ago.
The Raiders have been a mess on offense, and Head Coach Tom Cable changed quarterbacks again, putting in Jason Campbell.
It was a good decision and the Raiders, aided by two blocked punts and a safety, won the game.
