College Football Rankings: Who Got Screwed in Week 7 Coaches' and AP Polls
Well the Week 7 polls are in and it's time to break them down. It's getting increasingly tough for the pollsters to put together their rankings with so many quality teams out there and that means that somewhere, one team had to get jobbed.
I've looked through both polls and broke down 10 teams that have legit gripes heading into this week. If you agree or disagree, let it be known in the comments. If there's someone you think got the short end of the stick and I missed it, be sure to leave it there as well.
Nebraska
1 of 10
Now I have no issue with where Nebraska is ranked, but something about how the first place votes were distributed irked me.
In the AP Poll, the first place votes go to Ohio State, Oregon and Boise State. Nothing wrong with those three. However, right below the Cornhuskers, I see Oklahoma was given two first place votes. I know Florida State and Air Force are good teams, but still, show Nebraska some love if you're going to give a first place vote to anyone other than those three.
Auburn
2 of 10
Again, Oklahoma has beaten some good teams, but I don't like them better than Auburn, who is undefeated in the SEC and beat South Carolina, who just upset Alabama.
The SEC is the toughest conference in America and being undefeated there should mean more than Oklahoma's undefeated record.
Boise State
3 of 10
While this happened last week, I'm not happy with Oregon hopping Boise State in the polls.
I know that Oregon has been very impressive this year but so has Boise State. The Broncos have tried to schedule tough opponents and have beaten the teams they've played and looked good doing it. Boise State just can't get any love from the pollsters.
Oklahoma State
4 of 10
Other than Nevada's win over Cal, the Wolf Pack haven't really beaten anyone, yet Oklahoma State is behind them in the AP Poll this week. The Cowboys are ahead of Nevada in the Coaches' Poll, which is where they should be in the media poll.
I know Oklahoma State hasn't beaten anyone either, but still, the Cowboys are a better team than Nevada.
LSU
5 of 10
I know Alabama is a defending national champion, but LSU is undefeated in the SEC while the Crimson Tide have a loss in the conference.
The Tigers haven't been pretty winning, but they've beaten everyone they've faced including three teams that were ranked in the top 25 at the time of the matchup. That's good enough for me, but not the pollsters who ranked them below Alabama in both polls.
Michigan State
6 of 10
Michigan State is undefeated and just went into Michigan and walked away with a huge win. Arkansas is a one-loss team but is somehow ahead of the Spartans in the AP Poll.
I think it's a joke that a team that has looked as good as the Spartans have is behind the Razorbacks in the poll.
TCU
7 of 10
TCU has started the season undefeated and has done so impressively to this point, yet Nebraska some how jumps the Horned Frogs in the polls.
To be honest, that stinks. No one ever gives these teams the respect that they deserve, regardless of how the Cornhuskers are ranked, they haven't been so impressive to hop TCU. Had the Horned Frogs stumbled a bit, maybe then I'd be okay with it, but not like this.
Utah
8 of 10
Utah just dropped 68 points on Iowa State, yet somehow, the Utes have dropped a spot in the AP poll to 11th.
As you can see, I have a lot of problems with the AP poll, which has been horrendous this week. I don't know what the voters saw this weekend, but they're evidently blind. They have to be to explain this joke of a poll.
Oregon State
9 of 10
Oregon State may have two losses to its record this year, but those losses were to Boise State and TCU who are both in the top-five in the country.
The Beavers just beat Arizona on the road, who was in the top 25 and was a big win for Oregon State. However, the coaches decided that wasn't good enough and kept the Beavers out of the polls. Not only that, but three other teams received more votes than Oregon State.
The Beavers got robbed, plain and simple.
South Carolina
10 of 10
So South Carolina may have lost to Auburn, but they just beat the defending national champions and when the polls come out, the Gamecocks are ranked below the Crimson Tide in both polls.
Excuse me?
It's a total crime that any team who beats another could be ranked below them in the polls. I know Alabama was impressive before that, but it's hard to believe that you could say that South Carolina should be below the Crimson Tide given the way the Gamecocks won. It wasn't a fluke and it was a straight up win against the top team in the nation.
There's something to be said for that and the pollsters didn't do the right thing when casting their votes.
