NFL Week 5 Picks: Randy Moss Back to Minnesota; Undefeated Kansas City at Indy
Ahh, fresh off my bye week and ready to get after it. My bye week could not have come at a better time; I was getting worse as the weeks progressed. This week—I think—I will make amends for my poor performance in Week 3. So let's get to it:
What an intriguing week this has already been. Randy Moss goes back to Minnesota just in time to take another trip to Revis Island (providing it isn't still closed for repairs). He will also get a shot at the Pats in a couple of weeks. Just what were the Pats thinking?
If they were trying to make quarterback Tom Brady's job harder, mission accomplished. With Welker taking all the double teams now, who does Brady have to go to? That's right, no one. Rumor has it he has been in contact with Deion Branch. If this is true, rather than lightning in a bottle, Brady better hope Branch can find youth in a bottle. Brady needs all the wide receiver help he can get.
In other action, undefeated (I know, I can't believe I'm about to say this either) Kansas City heads to Indianapolis, Green Bay heads to Washington, and the Vick-less Eagles head to San Francisco.
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Buffalo Bills

OK, this week the Bills get their first win. I'm not sure who that Jacksonville team was last week, but they probably will not make another appearance this season. Ryan and his boys are looking better and are at home this week. I'll take the Bills.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Cincinnati Bengals

The only thing worse than losing to a hated division rival is being that rival's first win of the season. If I'm Marvin Lewis I am doing my best impression of a disgruntled JetBlue flight attendant all this week in practice. Supposed playoff/Super Bowl teams do not lose games like last week's against the Browns. That is why I am taking the Bengals this week. I believe they put it together offensively and defensively in the same game. Heck, they might even get a special teams touchdown.
Atlanta Falcons @ Cleveland Browns

Cleveland looked like an NFL team last week. They are still riding the high from beating their in-state division rivals. I am not convinced Matt Ryan (ESPN, please stop calling him Matty Ice until he actually wins something) can take the Falcons to the next level. This week is my upset special; I am taking the Browns at home. (I expect my inbox to be flooded if I get this one wrong.)
St. Louis Rams @ Detroit Lions

Shaun Hill will not be spending much time in this position this week. I like his and the Lions' chances against the Rams. Sam Bradford is still learning the NFL game and road games are always tough to win, especially for rookies. I will take the Lions. (Are you paying attention? That is two winless teams I have picked so far.)
Kansas City Chiefs @ Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis obviously has some issues to deal with away from home. Luckily, they do not have to worry about it this week. Undefeated Kansas City (yes, I said undefeated) comes to Indy for a visit. The Colts usually are not very hospitable, especially after a loss.
Peyton Manning (I still think we should name the MVP Award after him) has been stellar and they are only 2-2 (0-2 in the division). The defense has to pick it up and this week I believe they do. I am also calling my second special teams touchdown (Indy) of the week (see my Tampa Bay-Cincinnati pick). I am taking the Colts.
Green Bay Packers @ Washington Redskins

If someone would take the gun out of the Packers' hand so they can stop shooting themselves in the foot, Green Bay might be the team to beat in the NFC. They committed 18 penalties against the Bears (in a loss) and barely escaped last week's game against the Lions with a W. Maybe they can empty the magazine in time to be a contender at the end of the year. Washington is without Clinton Portis and McNabb has not looked sharp yet. I will take the Packers.
Chicago Bears @ Carolina Panthers

Cutler or no Cutler, I have a feeling about the Panthers this week. Chicago is reeling and Cutler may still have a few cobwebs. I will take the Panthers in an upset (another winless team to get their first win).
Denver Broncos @ Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore got a HUGE win at Pittsburgh last week. It would be a crime if they wasted that with a home loss to the Broncos. That is not going to happen. As a matter of fact, I believe the Ravens flex a little offensive muscle this week. I will take the Ravens.
N.Y. Giants @ Houston Texans

I don't care if the Giants won last week or not. Tom Couglin's seat is still scorching. They will not be able to stop Arian Foster or Matt Schaub. And, by the way, I hear some guy by the name of Andre Johnson is playing this week. Get the hose, Coughlin's seat will be ON FIRE! I'll take the Texans.
New Orleans Saints @ Arizona Cardinals

Come on, you cannot tell me Reggie Bush means that much to this offense. This offense has been about as productive as Hair Club for Men was for Don Rickles. Sean Payton needs to figure something out. Luckily, he has a rather easy stretch coming up. Nervously, I will take the Saints.
San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders
11 of 14
Now that their annual September slumber is over, the Chargers can get down to business. This week they can pick up an important divisional win and begin their assault on the AFC West. I will take the Chargers on the road.
Tennessee Titans @ Dallas Cowboys

After everything the Cowboys have tried to do to sabotage this season, Week 5 finds them one game out in the win column for the division lead. They have a tough stretch coming up and this is a game they should win. It will be interesting to see which Cowboys team shows up this week. Proceeding with caution, I will take the Cowboys.
Philadelphia Eagles @ San Francisco 49ers

This week we find out if Andy Reid did the right thing by letting Donovan McNabb go for Kevin Kolb. All along I have said, emphatically, no. I for one was happy to see McNabb get revenge last week (even if he did not play all that well). I do not see things getting better for Philadelphia any time soon. I will take the Niners at home (and there it is, all four winless teams to get their first win).
Minnesota Vikings @ N.Y. Jets
14 of 14
If you were to ask me which game I would pick to put on Monday Night Football this week, this would be the one.
Randy Moss returns to Minnesota. Darrelle Revis returns to the field. The Slouch returns to Revis Island. However, Moss is only going to be as good as his quarterback and, well, his quarterback has looked more like the 40-Year-Old Virgin than an NFL quarterback.
Minnesota's defense better take Dustin Keller away from Mark Sanchez or it will be a long night for the Vikings. It will anyway. Favre throws two more picks and the Jets win. I'll take the Jets.
