Fantasy Football: Joe Flacco and Six Quarter-Season Buy Low Candidates

Ryan LesterOct 6, 2010

With four weeks in the books, it is time to try to raid your fellow fantasy GMs' candy jars and take the players that have been the source of their upset stomachs.

Joe Flacco, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Flacco is sporting a 70.5 passer rating with more INTs (six) than TDs. Considering he's already faced defensive stalwarts like the Jets, Bengals, and Steelers, it shouldn't be surprising that he's off to a slow start. The road gets smoother going forward, especially his fantasy playoffs run against Houston, New Orleans, and Cleveland.

Ryan Mathews, RB, San Diego Chargers

Mathews showed toughness by running from his ankle injury sooner than expected. Even better, if you are trying to acquire him, is the fact that he was outproduced by Mike Tolbert. His owners were shaken up when he went down and flustered that Tolbert was more productive. Norv Turner committed to Mathews though, which means he should begin to get the bulk of the carries again.

While Tolbert's play has warranted he stay in the mix, Mathews is the better option going forward. Strike now before he lights up Oakland.

Shonn Greene, RB, New York Jets

LT has looked amazing. Hopefully Greene's 117-yard game against the Bills will be downplayed by his owner as garbage time since LT really stole the show. LT looks great now, but will he remain as spry as the season wears on? Given his age, I have some concerns. If you can get Greene for 40 cents on the dollar, why not take a chance on him?

Randy Moss, New England Patriots

The rumors are hot and heavy that Moss will be dealt to the Vikings today. Brett Favre will have no problem airing it out to Randy to do his thing. I believe he'll be energized by his return to the Vikings. Your window will be small because I expect him to do well with the Vikings.

Marques Colston, WR, New Orleans Saints

The Saints offense just isn't clicking. Colston hasn't reached 70 yards in a game this year and has been in the end zone as often as you have. With Arizona, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland on the horizon, things could change in a hurry.

Jason Witten, TE, Dallas Cowboys

Witten is off to a slow start with just 134 yards (44.7 ypg) and no TDs. With players like Dustin Keller, Zach Miller, Chris Cooley, Tony Moeaki, Marcedes Lewis, and Aaron Hernandez off to better starts, Witten could be expendable. His track record alone is enough reason to try to stash him.
