NFL Week 5 Picks: Previewing the Top Ten Player vs. Player Matchups
We've got an exciting set of games ahead of us in Week 5 of the 2010 NFL season with several critical player battles including star players such as Roddy White and Julius Peppers.
Therefore, here are my thoughts previewing the top 10 intriguing matchups of the week.
Note: Here are my Power Rankings for Week 5.
Roddy White Vs. Browns Secondary
1 of 10
For two consecutive games, the Cleveland Browns have let their opposition's star wideout absolutely take control of the game.
First, Anquan Boldin torched them for three touchdowns and last week they allowed Terrell Owens to record ten receptions for 222 yards.
Facing a Pro Bowl WR in Roddy White, they could struggle once again.
Julius Peppers Vs. Carolina Panthers Offense
2 of 10
Any meeting where a player has the opportunity to face a former team is always fun.
Last week, we witnessed Donovan McNabb return to Philadelphia for the first time since being traded, and now we'll see Julius Peppers face his old squad.
I'm sure Peppers will be bringing his "A" game, just as he has throughout the season.
DeMarcus Ware Vs. Michael Roos
3 of 10
This is certainly a matchup to watch, as both Ware and Roos are some of the best at their positions.
Whoever wins this battle will give his respective team a huge advantage at winning this game.
Sam Bradford Vs. Ndamukong Suh
4 of 10
Leading up until the draft, the debate between whether the Rams should invest their No. 1 overall pick on either Sam Bradford or Ndamukong Suh was ongoing. As we all know, the Rams decided to take whom they hope to be their franchise quarterback.
This week, we'll have a better idea of if they made the wise decision or not as the two players face off.
Clay Matthews Vs. Trent Wiliams
5 of 10
Trent Williams, the Redskins rookie starting left tackle, has a huge challenge facing him this week as he will have to contain Clay Matthews, one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL.
Whether or not he can do so will determine if they have a chance at winning this game.
Giants Pass Rush Vs. Texans Offense
6 of 10
As I've explained on numerous occasions before, generating an effective pass rush is an integral key to success and can absolutely terrorize an opponent's offense.
So, even though the Texans have one of the most prolific units in the league, they will have a tough time if the Giants can replicate the nine-sack performance they had against the Bears.
Chiefs Running Game Vs. Colts Run Defense
7 of 10
Just looking at these two teams based on previous misconceptions, one would assume this is an easy win for the Colts
And it may be.
However, the Chiefs' dynamic duo of Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones won't allow it too easily.
Against a Colts team that ranks 29th in terms of defending the run, they could have a monstrous game.
Vikings D-Line Vs. Jets O-LIne
8 of 10
It's widely considered that games are won in the trenches.
Therefore, in a much-anticipated Monday night game, the winner may be determined by whether the Vikings defensive line can overpower the Jets offensive line, which are two of the best in the business
Randy Moss Vs. Darrelle Revis
9 of 10
This is one of the most interesting matchups of the week, as the league's top corner takes on one of the league's top receivers.
Moreover, this is a rematch of an earlier game, where Revis limited Moss to only only 2 receptions for 38 yards (one of which was a touchdown).
It'll be interesting to see what kind of impact Moss has on the Vikings and whether or not he can solve their offensive woes and turn their season around.
Note: This matchup may not occur if Moss doesn't play, or if Revis doesn't return from his hamstring injury.
Kyle Orton Vs. Ravens Defense
10 of 10
Kyle Orton has already thrown for 1,419 yards and posted a 96.3 passer rating so far, making him one of the most underrated players in the NFL, in my opinion.
While he's certainly been impressive, he's yet to face a pass defense of the Ravens' caliber.
This will be the ultimate test as to whether or not he's the real deal.
