Les Miles Madness: Week 5 Thoughts

Alex FergusonOct 2, 2010

A few points from what has been an intriguing start to Week 5 of 2010 season (before I watch Georgia Tech vs Wake Forest while waiting for Florida/Alabama and Penn State/Iowa or Oregon/Stanford (depending on how the game's going):

1. Les Luck: Can't believe how stunningly laughable the ending was in Baton Rouge. Stewart Mandel of Sport Illustrated fame summed it up on Twitter perfectly: "3rd and goal at 1, under 20 seconds and ticking, no TOs, LSU tries to sub in 3. Clock nearly runs out. Fumble snap, game "over."....Flag out on the play. Vols had tried to COUNTER subs, got caught with 13 on the field. New life for LSU, LSU wins w/ 0:00 on clock. Tallahassee Democrat writer Corey Clark also noted that a LSU player removed his helmet on the field and slammed it on the ground after the non-fumble. No Penalty. (The VFA would like to add that SEC refs guidelines are different from everyone elses guidelines, because the SEC is special and different).

2. Longhorns Roasted A): WANTED: One offensive coordinator needed at the University of Texas, Austin.

3.  Longhorns Roasted B): Watch DeMarco Murray's sensational touchdown in Oklahoma's 28-20 win over Texas in what was really quite a dreadful game (although improved with some wonderful cheerleaders!).

4. Stunner at State(s): No. 24 NC State fall at home to Virginia Tech 41-30 despite being 17-0 up at one point. Speaking of State, Michigan State topped off No. 11 Wisconsin in a sensational game, winning 34-24.

5. Heisman Watch (1): Denard Robinson keeps Michigan unbeaten through the air and floor with the winning TD in the dying seconds at Indiana for a 42-35 victory. The key to beating Michigan, people, is to throw on them. The Wolverines suck in the secondary. Oh, and try and stop Denard Robinson. The first bit is easy.

6. Heisman Watch (2): Terrelle Pryor leads Ohio State to pretty uninspiring 24-10 victory over Illinois on the road. This Ohio State-Michigan game's got College Gameday written all over it...

7. Ugly GameWatch: Miami beats Clemson 31-20 in its back yard despite QB Jacory Harris throwing two AWFUL interceptions in the Tigers' end zone. Clemson QB Kyle Parker outdid him with three INTs of his own, though. And Clemson also fumbled the ball THREE times—although some credit has to go to a swarming Hurricane defense. This game wasn't easy on the eye, though—although Miami's cheering section, ahem, was.

8. Back to Les Miles. This might come back to haunt him...
