Wayne Rooney Needs to Listen to Sir Alex Ferguson and Get Some Rest

Andrew JordanOct 2, 2010

Ever since suffering an injury while playing Bayern Munich in last season's Champions League quarterfinal, Manchester United's star striker Wayne Rooney has found himself in a battle to get back to his form before the injury.

But since the injury, Rooney has been stuck in standstill as his form has never gotten back to where it should be.

From finding himself playing for Man United when it was apparent that the Red Devils were not going to win the Premier League over Chelsea to having an abysmal World Cup with England, the ending of last season was a year to forget.

However, the start to this season has been no better, as Rooney continues to have problems with only one goal in four Premier League matches, and has been rumored to have cheated on his wife Coleen with a prostitute while his wife was pregnant with their first child.

Now, with the recurring injury to his ankle causing him to miss the Champions League match along with this weekend's fixture at Sunderland, Rooney continues to show persistence that he wants to play to rediscover his form instead of taking time off.

Rooney has already claimed that he will be fit for England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on October 12, a claim that will help Fabio Capello with many of his other strikers out with injury for this crucial qualifier.

However, Wayne Rooney must take some time off to rediscover his top form.

Overall, Rooney has been fighting the same injury for the last six months and now has ligament damage on that ankle.

With an injury such as this one, Rooney is damaging that ankle even further in each match due to the fact that he continues to put pressure on it by running around.

Add that with the fact that he will be playing at Wembley Stadium, which has become known for its terrible field conditions since it re-opened back in 2007, has seen its pitch get replaced 11 times in its three years of operation.

Also when you look at Manchester United's lineup, they have Dimitar Berbatov (who has the most goals in the Premier League) and Javier Hernandez (who has impressed whenever he has gotten a chance to play for Red Devils); you realize that Man United do not have a real problem at the striker position.

But the worst part of all of this for Wayne Rooney is that he is being too stubborn in letting his ankle heal.

In Sir Alex Ferguson, you have a manager that has seen everything in his time as Manchester United's manager.

Fergie would know what is best for Rooney considering all of the injuries that he has seen, and he knows that in order for Manchester United to have success, they will need to have a healthy Rooney for the rest of the season.

Going forward, Wayne Rooney must rest his ankle for at least the next two weeks for his own good.

By doing this, he will give Manchester United a better chance of reclaiming the Premier League title from Chelsea this season.
