This battle of two 3-1 teams has huge implications for the Big Ten. Both teams come into the game ranked, Penn State comes in ranked at #22 while the Hawkeyes come in ranked at #17. Iowa is undefeated at home and their one loss was at ranked Arizona two weeks ago. Penn State is also undefeated at home and their one loss came at the #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.

Penn State under Joe Paterno has been known for its nasty defense. Once again the defense is carrying this team. The defense is ranked 8th in the nation only giving up under 13 points a game. The defense will have to hold the Buckeyes because the Lions QB, Robert Bolden, is a Freshman. Just like a Freshman would, he has turned the ball over. Bolden has 823 yards with 3 TDs and 5 Ints. This could be trouble for the Lions because Iowa’s defense has been even better, ranking at #5 in the nation giving up an average of 3 field goals a game (12 points). Opposite of Bolden in this game is Senior QB Ricky Stanzi. Stanzi’s numbers are pretty impressive as he has thrown for 999 yards with 9 TDs and only 1 Int.

Look for Iowa’s defense to be too much for the Freshman Bolden. The football pick in this one is obvious, it has to be the Iowa Buckeyes. The team is undefeated at home and the crowd should be a major fuel for this top 5 defense.
