Michigan State Over Wisconsin, and 4 Other Bold NCAAF Week 5 Preditions

Matt RudnitskySep 30, 2010

Although this year has been disappointing in terms of upsets so far, that is about to change.

With an exciting slate games coming up this weekend, it's only a matter of time before some bug-time upsets happen.

Conference play opens in the Big Ten and Big East, and there are plenty of other huge conference matchups on tap.

So here it is, get ready for my bold predictions for Week 5 in College Football...

Michigan St. Vs. Wisconsin

1 of 5

The emotional burst and Michigan State's potent offense is going to be tough for Wisconsin to handle, despite their stellar defense.

Also, Wisonsin's offense lacks enough firepower to keep up with the high-scoring Spartans.

Spartans win, 28-20.

Texas Vs. Oklahoma

Everyone has gotten way too down on Texas, after a disappointing loss to a talented, but underachieving UCLA squad.

Remember, it's Garrett Gilbert's first year, you had to expect some growing pains.

Look for Texas to regain their form and blow out Oklahoma, 31-17.

Illinois Vs. Ohio St.

Okay, I admit it, I ran out of upsets.

But this game will be closer than you might think.

The Fighting Illini have an excellent rushing attack and an improved defense, and will be able to control the clock and keep the Buckeyes off the field, and containing Pryor somewhat while he's on the field.

In the end, Ohio St.'s defense is too dominant, but Illinois will hang in there for three quarters.

The Buckeyes win, 28-14, pulling away late.

Tennessee Vs. LSU

LSU has the most glaring weakness of any team in the Top 25.  Their pass offense, led by Jordan Jefferson, is abysmal, and despite the rest of the team's strengths, it's tough to win without a passing game.

Tennessee wins, 17-16.

Virginia Tech Vs. NC State

At the beginning of the season, the fact that NC State would be the ranked team entering this game would seem ridiculous, but it's true.

The downfall of the Hokies has been overstated.

Yes, they lost to James Madison, but it was right after a huge emotional loss against Boise St.

Look for Virginia Tech to assert their dominance on the ACC, with a 28-7 win.
