The Week 4 BCS Report: Texas Is Out Of It

Dan SmithSep 29, 2010

The Associated Press (AP) Poll chose to not be a part of the BCS process of choosing the top two teams a few years ago.

You have to respect that.

I look at the AP Poll as the only true poll so I was surprised that one voter had Texas as their number one team through the first three weeks of the college football season.

The Longhorns were torn up by an average UCLA squad out of the tough Pac-10 Conference. Mack Brown saw his team get humiliated at home in what was supposed to be a tune-up for the Red River Rivalry in Week 5.

With Nebraska and Oklahoma in the top ten, the Big 12 has the appearance of a good conference. It is a league that is a Texas win over Oklahoma from fighting the ACC and Big East for the title of worst BCS conference this year.

Maybe the Big 12 is disbanding a year too late. The Big East is so awful that they are looking to add TCU and for those of you who don't know, TCU stands for TEXAS Christian University. TCU, out of the Mountain West, would dominate the Big East this year and could dominate the league for the next few years.

The SEC is still king and the king of the SEC, Alabama, went into a grinder with Arkansas and survived. Their reward is a game with the Florida Gators. Urban Meyer has another freshman phenom after Trey Burton's six touchdown performance against the Kentucky Wildcats.

I don't think Burton will score six times against Nick Saban's Crimson Tide defense.

The Arizona Wildcats are not a college football powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination. They have had a very interesting rivalry with the University of California and the 2010 chapter of that series was every bit as strange.

Here is what happened in a pre-list to List Time:

1. Two missed field goals with one hitting the upright

2. The teams lining up the wrong side for the second half kickoff

3. Play being stopped on a fair catch where the ball bounced

4. A final score of 10-9

5. Arizona going to 4-0 and not moving up at all in the only poll that matters, the AP Poll

West Virginia competed with the LSU Tigers but fell short in a game where the home fans booed their own team. To be honest, they were booing Les Miles who is the best defense against his own offense with his Big Ten style of play calling. I am not talking about the Terrelle Pryor six touchdown style that the Big Ten has adopted to compete with the athletes of the SEC. I am talking about the Woody Hayes three yards and a cloud of dust old school style of Big Ten football.

If you want to play smash mouth football, Les, then why do you recruit dynamic athletes likes Patrick Peterson?

Boise State took care of their business against Oregon State and with Nevada cracking the top 25, they might have as many quality wins as Alabama and Ohio State of the SEC and Big Ten. I know that might seem impossible but look at their schedules and find more than three quality teams on the Tide or Buckeyes schedule.

I am on board as I think Boise State is the, well, let's get to my lists...
