Penn State Football: Time for the Nittany Lions To Make A Statement vs. Iowa

Geremy GrahamSep 28, 2010

It's no secret so far this season that the Penn State football team has had a few cake games handed to them to boost their confidence.

Playing teams like Youngstown State, Kent State, and Temple, aren't exactly good indicators for how talented a football team is.

Although Penn State handled Youngstown State and Kent State, they had a struggle with Temple. This means there is still room for improvement and room to make a statement.

This upcoming game against Iowa, in Iowa City, will be the biggest test of the season, without question.

If they play to their full potential and bring a victory over No. 16 Iowa, there will be a tremendous amount of respect thrown in the Nittany Lion's direction.

After four games Penn State fans can feel confident the Nittany Lions are capable of handling the teams they are supposed to. But what about teams in the Big Ten Conference?

This is what the season comes down to.

I'm not going to say I don't care about non-conference games. If Penn State lost every non-conference game, but went undefeated in the Big Ten, I would be overwhelmed with excitement.

This is not going to be an easy task. Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan, and Michigan State are all ranked in the top 25 in the country.

As a young team still looking to gel together this season, these match ups will be crucial. They will decide whether or not Penn State makes it to a bowl game and has a successful season.

Despite everything that has happened this season, this Saturday is all that matters.

The Nittany Lions need to take these conference games one at a time in order to be as successful as possible.

Iowa is up first.

It's time for Penn State to make a statement.
