College Football Power Rankings, QBs: The Top 10 Big Men on Campus
As the fifth weekend of college football approaches, several quarterbacks are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the pack, some in more ways than others.
Sure, no one gets more love after a victory than the All-American poster-boy quarterback. But then again, no one is under as much pressure to perform than he, either.
Here are the top 10 quarterbacks in today's game, based on overall production, reliability, and WOW factor.
No. 10: Colin Kaepernick (Nevada Wolf Pack)
1 of 10
Nevada's main man, senior Colin Kaepernick, took over midway through his freshman year, and since then has thrown 67 touchdown passes and run for 47 more scores.
Kaepernick has thrown for over 900 yards this season, and run for over 450 yards, including eight rushing touchdowns.
Watch for Kaepernick and the 4-0 Wolf Pack to present all sorts of problems for Boise State down the road.
No. 9: Matt Barkley (USC Trojans)
2 of 10
So USC isn't bowl-eligible for the next couple of seasons, but that is not stopping sophomore Matt Barkley and the Trojans.
A second-year starter, Barkley has USC off to a 4-0 record, throwing for over 900 yards, and 12 touchdowns in the process.
No. 8: Taylor Martinez (Nebraska Cornhuskers)
3 of 10
So what if he is a freshman? Or that he has been mediocre through the air?
Taylor Martinez single-handedly ran the Nebraska Cornhuskers to a No. 6 ranking.
Martinez has nearly 500 yards on the ground, and over 500 through the air. Rather pedestrian numbers, but that is before one factors in his eight rushing touchdowns.
Can you say "dual-threat quarterback?"
No. 7: Case Keenum (Houston Cougars)
4 of 10
One of the most prolific passers in college football history, Case Keenum has thrown 107 career touchdown passes, but he is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Keenum started somewhat slowly by his standards this season. Houston is 3-1, but he only threw for 636 yards and five touchdowns.
No. 6: Andy Dalton (TCU Horned Frogs)
5 of 10
One of college football's all-time winningest quarterbacks, senior Andy Dalton has led the Horned Frogs to a 4-0 record with nearly 800 yards passing and eight total touchdowns.
Dalton has over 30 victories under center for TCU, and will surely add to that impressive record as the No. 5 Horned Frogs look to shake up the BCS landscape.
No. 5: Russell Wilson (NC State Wolf Pack)
6 of 10
Statistically, NC State junior Russell Wilson has been superb, throwing for over 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns thus far.
The 4-0 Wolf Pack are the class of the Atlantic Coast Conference, thanks to Wilson's versatility under center. He is an undersized and elusive pass-first quarterback who will likely be in the discussion for the Heisman trophy.
No. 4: Cameron Newton (Auburn Tigers)
7 of 10
Perhaps the breakout star of this young season, Cameron Newton has led 4-0 Auburn to two consecutive come-from-behind victories in the past two weeks.
Newton, a junior college transfer, has done damage on the ground, as well as through the air, rushing for nearly 500 yards and five scores.
Factor in his stupendous 182 quarterback rating and nine passing touchdowns, and you see that Newton is a pretty talented 6' 6", 250-pound college football player.
No. 3: Terrelle Pryor (Ohio State Buckeyes)
8 of 10
Ohio State's Terrelle Pryor has been excellent through his first four games this season, racking up over 1,000 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns, including a receiving TD last week against Eastern Michigan.
Pryor will likely be in the Heisman discussion at the end of the season with these next two guys.
No. 2: Denard Robinson (Michigan Wolverines)
9 of 10
The Wolverines have stormed out of the gates this season, beating rival Notre Dame on the road and sporting a perfect 4-0 record.
All in part to Heisman candidate Denard Robinson, who in that time has accumulated over 700 passing yards, more than 650 yards on the ground, and 10 all-purpose touchdowns.
Is he really that good? Look for the Ohio State-Michigan game in Columbus in late November to answer a lot of questions.
No. 1: Kellen Moore (Boise State Broncos)
10 of 10
As calm and composed as they come, Boise State junior Kellen Moore tops the list for a number of reasons.
Moore is following up a filthy-good season a year ago (39 TD, 3 INT, 3,536 passing yards) with another great start; throwing for nearly 900 yards and eight touchdowns to one interception.
Boise State was undefeated last season, and will likely do the same this year after beating Virginia Tech and Oregon State in its first three games.
Moore's production (72 career passing touchdowns and 7,895 career passing yards), speaks for itself, and no one leads a better two-minute drive at the end of a game (Virginia Tech-Boise State game).
