SEC Football Week 4: Who's HOT and Who's NOT in the SEC This Week
What a big week of games in and out of the conference in Week 4.
Several games went right down to the wire, and some new stars emerged. Let's take a look around the league and see who's hot and who's not this week in the SEC.
SIZZLIN'
Trey Burton - QB - Florida
Has Urban Meyer found the next Tim Tebow?
The freshman quarterback hit the reset button on the Florida offense, scoring a UF record, six touchdowns. In an amazing stat line, Burton had five carries for 40 yards and five touchdowns. He was 1-of-1 passing for 42 yards and even caught five passes for 37 yards and a score. His performance was totally off the charts and led Florida to a 48-14 win over the Kentucky Wildcats.
Mark Ingram - RB - Alabama
Ingram continues to churn out the yards since his return from injury, gaining 157 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Crimson Tide past Arkansas, 24-20.
Cam Newton - QB - Auburn
Newton was unstoppable in Auburn's 35-27 win over South Carolina, throwing for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 16-of-21 passing and rushing for 176 yards and three scores on 25 carries.
Newton is now the SEC's leading rusher, with 485 yards for the season.
Brandon Bolden - RB - Ole Miss
Bolden went off, rushing for 228 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, leading the Rebels to a 55-38 win over Fresno State.
Alshon Jeffery - WR - South Carolina
Jeffery caught eight passes for a career-best 192 yards and two touchdowns in Carolina's loss at Auburn.
WARMIN' UP
Chris Relf - QB - Mississippi State
Relf finally thawed out against Georgia, finishing 8-of-13 on pass attempts for 135 yards and a touchdown. He also carried the rock for the Bulldogs, rushing 21 times for 97 yards.
Matt Simms - QB - Tennessee
Simms came up big for the Vols against UAB, going 19-of-34 passing for 245 yards and three touchdown strikes. The biggest was a 25-yarder to Denarius Moore in the second overtime to give the Vols a 32-29 win.
Aaron Murray - QB - Georgia
Murray was lone bright spot in Georgia's loss at Mississippi State, completing 18 of 31 pass attempts for 274 yards and a touchdown.
Derrick Locke - RB - Kentucky
Locke ran for 103 yards on 23 carries in Kentucky's loss at Florida.
John Brantley - QB - Florida![]()
The Gators signal-caller passed for 248 yards and a touchdown on 24 of 35 attempts in lopsided win over Kentucky.
Stevan Ridley - RB - LSU
Ridley helped lead the Tigers over West Virginia, 20-14, rushing for 116 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
NOT SO HOT
Ryan Mallett - QB - Arkansas
Mallet threw for 357 yards and a touchdown on 25-of-38 passing, but he had three costly interceptions in the loss at home to Alabama.
Stephen Garcia - QB - South Carolina
Probably being a little tough on Garcia, but not as tough as the Ol' Ball Coach was by yanking him in the fourth quarter in the loss at Auburn.
Garcia's numbers, aside from the two critical fumbles, were actually very good. The quarterback threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns on 15-of-21 passing. The fumbles both led to Auburn touchdowns.
Mike Hartline - QB - Kentucky
Hartline struggled against the Gators defense, completing 21 of 39 attempts for 242 yards and a touchdown, but he had two interceptions in the loss.
CHILLIN'
Marcus Lattimore - RB - South Carolina
The Gamecocks running back was limited to 33 rushing yards on 14 carries but did get a touchdown in the loss at Auburn.
Jordan Jefferson - QB - LSU
Jefferson was 10-of-22 for 75 yards and two picks—'nuff said. Time to give Jarrett Lee a shot this week against the Vols.
Mark Richt - Coach - Georgia
I hate to see the heat come down on Richt, because I think he's a great guy, but the loss at Mississippi State really stings. A piece of advice for Georgia fans, be careful about getting rid of him, you could do a lot worse, despite your 1-3 record.
