Georgia Football: Many Issues Have Caused UGA To Have Bad Start to 2010 Season
What is there to say about the 2010 Georgia Bulldogs that has not been said?
They are now 1-3 with a 0-3 mark in SEC play. They have only scored one touchdown on the road and the defense is struggling to make plays and getting off the field.
Fans, students and alum are pointing fingers at different parties to blame for the bad start. Some fingers are pointing at head coach Mark Richt and some are pointing to the assistant coaches.
The reality is everyone should take some of the blame for the struggles because the team is not playing up to their potential. From offense, defense and special teams, they are not getting the job done.
The only bright spot on the team is the play of Aaron Murray who has played with great poise and confidence for a redshirt freshmen quarterback. Other than that all the other players are having a hard time getting the job done.
The running game has not been there because the offensive line has not been able to get that initial push off the line of scrimmage. That leads to one-two yard gains for Washaun Ealey, Caleb King and Carlton Thomas.
As for the defense, they have not been able to stop the running game of South Carolina and Mississippi State because they have players playing out of position. This is not surprising because this is the first year in the 3-4 front, but shouldn’t Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham try to put a scheme in that fits the personnel instead of trying to fit the players he has into his scheme?
Richt said they have to look into themselves into why they have not been successful. He’s also said this position is something new to him and had never been in this much of a hole. So the question now is can Georgia come together and salvage what’s left of this season, or is their too many issues to overcome?
One thing’s for sure, if they don’t beat Colorado next Saturday, there is no telling when they will win another game.
And that’s not a question one should ask about UGA football.
