Mark Richt Poll: Should He Be Feeling the Heat in Georgia?

Larry BurtonSep 25, 2010

It's one thing to come back from an 8-5 season and start off this season losing to South Carolina and Arkansas, but after a loss to lowly Mississippi State that leaves Georgia in sole possession of the last place in the SEC East, the question must be asked:

Georgia, how much do you love Mark Richt now?

Mediocre would be a very kind term to describe the state of the Bulldogs right now. Miserable may be more to the point. Fans may actually start rooting for another 8-5 season after another loss or two that are certainly coming down the schedule.

Georgia fans have consistently said how much they love Richt, pointing out his winning percentage, but what they must face is that those outside of Bulldog Nation only see a team spiralling down.

Now fans are left to wonder if they'll suffer a loss to Vanderbilt in three weeks and cement their spot on the bottom of the totem pole. After all, Vanderbilt did beat Ole Miss.

How much longer until calls are being made again to Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and his agent?

Richt was supposed to be an offensive genius, but his team is downright pitiful on offense and are not even in the top 50 percent of all college teams. Before Saturday's 24-12 loss at Mississippi State, the team was 63rd in points scored, 61st in passing yards, and 84th in rushing yards.

Does this sound like an offensive genius at work to you?

It's not like he hasn't had years and years to plan and recruit players to his style of offense. According to rivals, he's had some great recruiting classes. Does this mean then that he and his staff simply don't know what to do with them or to develop them?

This is not a sportswriter trying to tear down Mark Richt, who is a fine man and a good coach. It is only a reporter that's writing the cold, hard numbers and of the talk that goes around in the press boxes of the SEC right now.

The worst thing is that, after a close, hard-fought fight with a much better team in Arkansas last week, they looked downright miserable against a much less talented opponent this week.

The Dogs don't appear to be learning from their mistakes; they just seem to be getting worse.

Take a poll and let the sports world see what the fans think now after this last loss.
