Five-Star Football Recruit Greg Townsend Picks Top Three: Is USC in the Lead?
Greg Townsend, one of the nation's premier defenders, is close to planning his official visits, and we already have a good idea where he'll be heading after the 5-star prospect gave an update on his target schools.
"USC, Washington, and TCU round out the top three, then comes LSU, Miami, Oregon, and UCLA," said Townsend. "I'd say Washington and USC are recruiting me the most."
The California native has spent the past two weeks visiting a couple of schools close to home.
He was at USC when the Trojans played Virginia, and then went to UCLA for the Bruins victory over Houston.
Townsend is ranked as the No. 2 defensive end in the country, and has the athleticism and size to play anywhere from linebacker to defensive tackle on the next level.
He's got great instincts and strength, but his body control and balance are what stand out the most when you watch him play. Not many prospects his size are able to maneuver around blockers and contort their body without losing footing or balance.
USC, Washington and TCU have long been considered serious contenders, with Townsend's father having played for the Horned Frogs in the '80s.
But it's too early to count out options like Miami and UCLA, schools Townsend appears to have genuine intrigue in playing for.
Townsend will plan his first official visits in October, after he's taken the SATs, but doesn't plan on making a commitment until the Under Armour All-American Game in February.
