Notre Dame: One Win and Still Waiting...Is the Cupboard Bare Again?
Ok its early for Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish I know this. Although it has been said that Notre Dame fans are the most impatient, and hard to please supporters in college football, even Irish fans can't be ready to throw coach Kelly overboard.
Still two losses already is bad and has some of the Irish faithful disappointed, it's the fact that the defeats are very similar to those suffered in the previous two season that makes everyone in Notre Dame nation a little concerned. From the poor tackling, to play calling, player positioning, and questionable personnel packages the defensive unit as a whole (players and coaches) has shown little improvement.
In the worst year in Irish football history Charlie Weis made the remark "the cupboard was bare" to explain why his team could not perform well. Now Brian Kelly is starting to talk about how certain positions are "thin", like in the secondary but for some reason Robert Blanton, a two year starter, can not see the field under Coach Kelly even when Notre Dame's defense faces 3, 4, or 5 receiver sets........
And I'm going to stop right there, because like I said it is early and there are more game's to be played.
I will say this though the cupboard is not bare, Notre Dame has enough talent and experience to win the majority of their games this year, they should not be a below .500 team.
What I want to know from everyone out there is what win/loss record is unacceptable for the 2010 Fighting Irish. Is it 3-9, 4-8, 5-7, or does it not matter because it is a rebuilding year?
Please comment below, thank you.
