South Carolina Great Kenny McKinley Found Dead: We Will Always Remember No. 11

Alex RobertsSep 20, 2010

What a sad, sad, day for Gamecock nation.

Kenny McKinley, No. 11, died on September 20th, 2010, allegedly a suicide.

McKinley was more then just a player, and more then just a Gamecock record holder. His stats are less meaningful then the person he was off the field.

This tragedy shows again that these players are just human. The stress that these players are put through is immense. No one would have seen this coming from McKinley.

In an era of divas, prima donnas, and selfish players, in the era of lockouts and NCAA investigations, McKinley was one of the hardest working players in the history of South Carolina's program.

Through tireless effort, and dedication, he became the most decorated wide receiver Carolina has ever had. He is No. 1 on the list of receptions and touchdowns for South Carolina, and third all time in the SEC in receptions.

He was a team leader, and a model citizen and student.

Drafted by the Denver Broncos, he never had a chance to make an impact on the field due to injury. However, Carolina fans know what sort of potential he had.

McKinley will live on through Gamecock nation as one of the most beloved Gamecocks to ever enter Williams Brice. His smile, personality, and attitude make him the epitome of excellence.

All of the Gamecocks need to use this. Play this season in honor of No. 11.  Remember what it meant to be a true college athlete, and remember him.

No. 11, you will be missed. Gamecock nation loves you, and prays for your safe passage.
